"If you are looking for delicious, creative and fresh Italian food, then visit this restaurant. Food is amazing, fresh and great portions. We don't live in the area however, we've been here 2 times and both times, excellent. My 1 complaint was when I booked it, I mentioned we were bringing friends and celebrating a 60th birthday. Of course, upon arrival, the hostess asked who's birthday we were celebrating and then placed a birthday sign in front of our guest. We ordered our food and drinks and our server then asked if we wanted coffee dessert. I thought the dessert would have been presented with a candle or something. Instead, he just placed it on the table, said enjoy and left. Why bother acknowledging with a sign if you're not going to present the dessert with a candle? I felt embarrassed since it was our choice to go here to celebrate and it didn't feel special at all. I think our server tried to make up for it by offering limoncella to which we accepted 2, not 4.All in all, food was perfect, service was good and ambiance, rustic."

"As usual, a superb dinner at Root and Bone (short rib pasta special was incredible! . The restaurant has invested in beautiful glass partitions to separate tables and patrons are physically distanced from one another without negatively impacting the atmosphere. They've done an outstanding job during these times."

"Avondale Dairy bar is located on the east side of Stewart and south of Carlton on the Niagara side of the Welland Canal across from the St. Catharines side. Facing the civilization side on the other side of the river and with the local tiny airport as their backyard, Avondale Dairy Bar has been serving ice cream for almost 65 years. That's a crazy number seeing as how this side of the canal is still rural farm like but now this dairy farm is a full blown Parmalat milk producing plant. My wife had not been here for 42 years. She had to count and she said the place is so the same it's like taking a step back in time. Myself, I've never been but it's sort of obvious that this place bleeds nostalgia. Serving a community for two thirds of a century is no small feat. Having people line up for your products is another thing all together. The amount of employees filling orders for ice cream sundaes, banana splits, cones and other treats is sort of crazy. I counted well over a dozen filling orders but when you have a line up of patrons it sort of makes sense that they want into the building and they want their ice cream and this places definitely serves. The choices are diverse in flavors and while I really like key lime pie (the special of the day) I went with a deluxe sundae instead. Base of chocolate with chocolate peanut butter sundae style with whipped cream and nuts as the topping. This thing is vertical and while the whipped cream is high it's not rich but just creamy which was just amazing. I loved the topping and sweet sundae peanut butter flavor pooled in the cup portion. Being a hot day the indoor seating was fully occupied. The thing is these treats melt fast even though the ice cream was solid, the heat wins as it always does. Eating outside at the picnic tables is now a race. Because the whipped cream is not as cold or dense and on top it's the first to go. That whipped cream basically has to be eaten immediately. The ice cream when you get to it should be softened by that point so it's easier to scoop onto your spoon and feed yourself with at that point. There's obviously a technique to this sundae being that it's hot outside, this cup is overflowing and the vulnerable whipped cream is exposed. At the bottom of the cup (I got there alright) it was probably one of the most satisfying sundaes I've ever had. It would have been nice to be able to take my time with it more and in the long past where the sundaes were served in glass it would have been even more enjoyable. I get it that they have to use plastic and paper now. Those glass stands can break and go missing so easily I suppose. While they're not open all year round it's good to see that they're in big demand when it matters and that's during those hot summer days where ice cream is the thing."
