"We have eaten at most of the La Colombe group restaurants and always thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We tried Protégé during a weekend away in Franschoek and it was positively mind blowing. The food, service and ambiance were all next level. The friendly team were helpful, engaged, patient and funny! We had such a great time. The prawn stuffed Korean fried chicken was a particularly great standout and the cocktails were unreal!"

"There is a reason this place is rated #1 for breakfast in Franschhoek! Everything was just as you hope a great breakfast will be. I’ve had breakfast in many Franschhoek eateries and haven’t had a bad one, but this is just a step above the others. Plus a funky little shop inside. Definitely recommend. "Very unaccommodating. If they can show me camera footage that the whole time I was there people sat in the seats I wanted then I would be like fine. The entire time I was there no one sat in the window seats (4 sections) we wanted. You tell me you don’t know the times people booked for? Like we booked for 6pm. From 6pm to 7pm when we left nobody sat in those sections Furthermore, I refuse to believe that those people asked for window seats when they booked because equally you never asked us where we want to seat when we booked."

"Very enjoyable Sunday lunch. The Wiener Schnitzel was very good, so was the Wurstsalat. The Austrian Ravioli were good, maybe a bit too buttery (i.e. too rich), while the filling was slightly lacking flavour (alternatively, a bit more cheese could be added on top to enhance the flavours). The chef was very generous with the salmon on top of the salad. Overall, excellent. Portions are large, service is friendly, views from the garden are stunning. We'll definitely return. Oh...what we would love to see on the menu would be an Almdudler and an Austrian or Bavarian beer vom Fass. But sourcing them is probably difficult."

"Attentive service, lovely food, excellent wine an idyllic experience is on your doorstep Paarl seems like it might be a great trek. However we were pleasantly surprised to be rewarded with an idyllic escape after a 40 minute journey out of Cape Town. Service was superlative and the restaurant is a run attentively and unobtrusively. The menu was delightful with foraged items being used excellently, beautifully and tastily in a garden setting with a wonderful landscape to crown it all. Portions were generous and the wine is incredible."
