"I have started eating at el burrito loco locations since they first built on east Beltline displacing One of my favorite martini bars the bistro Bella vita well they still have a great spot downtown. The food at this location was excellent but as happens so often they slipped, quality portion size and service all tanked. So I started eating at several of the other locations including the alpine location and just this past week I visited the FREMONT location. I am again happy with loco burrito. First off I had the tamales....they tend to be my benchmark of good mex. while not the greatest, they were well made, very large, and the sauce was e cel lent. A little heavy on the masa nut would rather have that than a skinny anorexic tamale. The food after that improved...I ordered everything a la carte. The burrito was excellent as were the chicken ecchiladas...the chicken was lean tender not dry and well portioned. I happened to be there on a Tuesday where they have .99 cent hard and soft tacos...I took 2 of each in chicken and beef and they were by far the best .99 tacos I have ever had. Also the chorizo and cheese appetizer fantastic. And the salsa verde...which I tend apply over liberally to too many dishes was excellent A few negatives.... Overall the spice factor needs to be ramped up across the board.... The salsa that came with the chips which were good) was water blandNess. I expect that this lack of spice is typical outside of Mexican vilage area in GR as need to dull it down for local palates. Everything is claimed to be made from scratch on site so in the future I will just ask to spice it up. The tequila selection was extremely limited for a Mexican joint.....and would hope to get a decent pour when spending $10.00 a shot. Based on how meticulous it was measured expect the bartender was a chemistry major. Speaking of the bartender I will spare adding her name but this individual had neither sampled 95% of the menu nor frankly knew the difference between an enchilada and a burrito....so the staff needs training on what they sell and serve. They did carry Bohemia, my favorite Mexican brew so thumbs up for that! And note to the manager, break down and shell out the $20 for a plastic toilet seat. The fiberboard seat which was falling apart is a haven for germs and really downgrades what was otherwise a very clean and tidy washroom facility Bottom line, I am back to being a burrito loco fan at least in FREMONT. I won't be doing my drinking there at least not my tequila drinking but will most definitely be back for some great takeout"
