First trip to Galena and we ate at Embe twice in one day. The seafood chowder is a must have.
Great food and excellent service. Waiter/bartender was exceptional. Huge bowl of seafood chowder was terrific.

"From the moment you walk into Bread Vine and smell the delicious aroma of freshly baked bread, you know you are in a special place, a bakery that knows what it's doing. Located at 217 South Main Street in Galena, Illinois, Bread Vine is a unique combination of bakery and wine bar. Open from 9 to 8 Sunday through Thursday and 9 to 9 on Friday and Saturday, it offers a delicious variety of pastries, desserts, pies, tarts, salads, sandwiches, tacos and wines that my wife and I haven't found in our downtown Chicago neighborhood in recent years. We aren't wine drinkers. But Bread Vine's menu is too good to pass up. Start with a cheese board or blue cheese bruschetta or charcuterie board. Have you ever tasted a French Hot Dog? We couldn't resist the sweet treats. During our three-day getaway to Galena, we stopped at Bread Vine each day to satisfy our sweet teeth. Our favorites? Key lime tart, lemon meringue tart, tiramisu, apple turnover, berry mascarpone eclair and salted caramel chocolate tart. Believe me, they taste as good as they sound. But you might prefer strawberry cheesecake or maple pecan danish or nutella eclair or fruit cake or chocolate croissant or chocolate mousse or chocolate tart. Bread Vine offers something for everyone."

"This is our favorite place to eat when we visit Galena. We found it when it was a small hole in the wall; it was recommended by a local. The Eskargot was worth trying. The last meal I had was honey pig with goat cheese. Unbelievable. It's about showing that new things are worth the risk, especially here."

"A few days ago my husband and I came here for dinner. This was not the first time we were here and enjoyed every time. This time I tried something else on the menu, the horned beef sandwich. That was the best I ever had! There was a generous amount of beef, plus the taste and tenderness were amazing! The conversation was also pleasant. We'll be back soon and bring the children for the first time! Don’t worry about O’Dowds, our children are good at restaurants."

"We visited the area and searched through the lists on Happy Cow for something that the whole family would like. Most places seemed like their main vegan offer was just a burger. When we went down the main road, we spied this Japanese place. I made a basic sleuthing on the menu and it seemed appropriate. I did not ask too many questions (as if the fog soup has a herbal basis, or traditional fish base) but the veggie tempura, Oldashi Tofu and the 5 Veggie Sushi reels were pretty good! The vegan children were happy, and the non-veg family members were also happy!"

"When I saw the claim “pancakes larger than the plate” I thought it was just exaggeration. I was wrong. When I saw my chocolate chip pancake come out on the tray my jaw dropped. It’s rare when you have to apply tactics to eating a breakfast food. Just how do you eat a pancake that big? Cut, stack, cut stack…..Not only was it big, it was delicious! My wife had eggs and hash browns and is probably the pickiest person when it comes to both. Again, they were outstanding. I like a restaurant that doesn’t take themselves to seriously and this is one of them, without giving anything away each employee has a saying on the back of their shirt and they can be pretty funny. The service is great, the prices are fair. They are only open for breakfast and lunch so don’t miss them!"

"When I get to town, Brazen is always a must for me! The food is always amazing, I love that they constantly change their menu very season, it shows what a talented chef Kevin his team are. The vibes are amazing, and I also had a delicious drink there. Shoutout to our amazing waitress Christina for such a good care of us!!"
