"I’m not sure what food was being served but it was not Indian. The Chicken Tikka Masala sauce was bright red and the only taste was coconut milk. I would question whether it was even freshly made. It was awful. The naan was doughy and tasteless. We barely touched our food and got the bill and left. On the plus side, the young man who took our order was lovely and we did enjoy the after dinner mints that came with the bill best part of the meal)."

"A small jewel of a museum on the route of the north coast 500. not large, but interesting and well connected, especially to explain the highland rooms, it also has a small brilliant carribbean caoffein, with a friendly owner and large eating. a really interesting menu and freshly prepared. such a great change from the usual soggy, chilled sandwiches to these places."

"We happened upon this delightful tearoom on our way up the A9 so we stopped for coffee. I noted that other people had booked, and it was nearly lunchtime, so that's worth bearing in mind. It is really lovely, with a great range of snacks, meals and drinks. There is also a shop with all sorts of gifts, Scottish foods, Scottish toiletries etc, and we were fascinated by some amazing clocks. Service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. We sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed our coffee and snacks. Highly recommended."

"Highly recommended. My husband surprised me with a seafood platter for my birthday at la Mirage. We did a 160 mile round trip and it was 100% worth it. The platter needs to be ordered 48 hours in advance. It was certainly the freshest sea food I have ever tasted. Absolutely sublime. Home with a doggie bag as we couldn’t finish it all. Being presented with a birthday dessert was a lovely touch. Not expected by anyone but really added to the day out. The service was first class. The waiter was attentive and checked in with us regularly. We also enjoyed chats with the chef and owner. Both extremely courteous and keen to give us the best experience. I have read some folk making reference to the odd decor. It’s maybe a bit kitsch or old fashioned for some people but those of us in the north know the history of La Mirage. I’m personally delighted it’s not changed much over the years and feel it only adds to the ambience of the experience. La Mirage has always been renowned as one of the best fish restaurants in the highlands. I can honestly say it’s still my number one today."

"We spent a fabulous four days in helmsdale in 2012 and spent every night drinking, eating and singing with gerry and alison. they are both fantastic hosts and I would recommend a visit here for a beautiful Scottish hospitality."
