"Booked a couple of weeks before our visit and received a quick email reply from Alfie the owner confirming things. Just a short walk from the nearby Inverness riverside Premier Inn and a warm welcome from the staff who took our coats. Table for 2 in a almost full small restaurant, it has a cosy feeling and not overcrowded, very attentive staff and great 70's/80's background music, not too loud. Large selection of mostly seafood dishes and eventually went with a selection of seafood orientated ones which were all perfectly cooked and artistically presented, accompanied by a crisp white wine that complemented the food perfectly. The mussels were great and the hake was cooked to perfection, overall we were really happy with the entire experience. Whist not the cheapest meal in town we felt it was very good value for money, if your looking for something special and was made all the better by the attentive staff and a chat with chef/patron Alfie before we left. The River House thoroughly deserves it's number 1 position of Inverness restaurants, a treat for the senses."

"I've eaten here before celiac disease and his very good. I ate here recently and from a celiac point of view was very disappointed. I have also sent my disappointment to the remnants via e-mail, but never get an answer. The staff did not seem to know about celiac disease. Menu not clear and waiter had to offer options. Dessert stlll came with a wafer that got into question a confused answer and had to explain cc and request a new one."

"Absolutely loved my Lasagne today. And the chips were some of the best I ever had. Crunchy outside, fluffy inside, no fat, just sheer hot tastiness! Portions are pretty big, but it was so good, I finished most of my meal. Hubby had a Burger with Haggis and also enjoyed it a lot. Found the staff to be very organised, friendly and efficient. Amazing to see what the small kitchen can produce. Found Comfort Foods by chance and we are very happy about it. We'll be back for more next time we're in Inverness! Thanks for a great lunch!"

"Bit long, but here goes: Per its reputation, its an awesome place for live Scottish music. We visited on a night with an open session and musicians just kept arriving and adding their instruments to the group. It was very cool to listen. Of particular note was how hard our waiter, Stephen was busting his to do a good job. He was the ONLY person actually waiting on the tables, and was managing to handle every single table in the place! A few people had to wait a little longer than usual for some things, but the guy was handling at least 11 tables by himself, and I think more (I didn't see how many upstairs). As someone who has waited tables myself, handling that with help would be an amazing feat Stephen rocked it considering and was fantastically friendly despite the circumstances. To top it all off, I wasn't feeling great that evening, asked for a box to take my meal home in, and after Stephen made sure there wasn't anything wrong or that I wasn't unhappy with my meal, he discovered they didn't have any boxes. So, he RAN TO ANOTHER RESTAURANT AND GOT ONE FOR ME! Absolute ROCKSTAR move from my perspective, as he managed to have the tables handled still (as the kitchen was closing down at that point). So, not only great live Scottish music, but at least one guy that will absolutely go above and beyond to take care of patrons even when being overwhelmed due to being short staffed. I tipped reasonably well, but after writing this, I've realized I probably should have tipped even better. Good food, great music, and even great service in an impossible situation. My hat is off to Stephen and Hootananny. Definitely give them a shot if you can."
