I ordered a 10-ounce walleye today, and when I picked it up, I think they might have mistakenly given me butter instead. When I pan-fried it, it literally melted in my mouth. Thank you so much—best fish I’ve ever had! View all feedback.
What Donald Sullivan doesn't like about Burhop's Fish-seafood-hinsdale:
The prices are excessively high. I purchased 1 pound of swordfish for nearly $30. It had a strong fishy odor, which is not typical of fresh swordfish. I won't be spending my money there again. View all feedback.
Excellent seafood purveyor. We drive 30 minutes, past one other fish monger to buy from Burhops. Prices are very reasonable too, for fish fresher than you'll get at the supermarket. Employees are very helpful, if you aren't familiar with something they cantell you how to cook it. They are worth the trip.
Lobster roll wasn?t that amazing , just felt like a seafood salad on white bread. Not a lot of flavor for a sandwich that was like $16. But I will say their shrimp spread/dip was excellent. Definitely will be back for that
The Hinsdale location is open from 10:30 AM to 6 PM on Mondays, and from 9:30 AM to 6 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. On Fridays, they operate until 6:30 PM, on Saturdays until 5:30 PM, and on Sundays from 10 AM to 3 PM. This location can be found at 12 Grant Square, at the corner of Grant and Chicago Avenue, within the Grant Square shopping center. To start, you can enjoy soups like New England clam chowder, lobster bisque, Mediterranean crab, or shrimp gumbo. If you're looking for a quick bite, they offer delicious sandwiches such as lobster rolls and tuna rolls. Then, take a moment to explore the showcase featuring over 30 varieties of fish and seafood, all as fresh as if they were just caught that morning. My usual routine involves purchasing two one-pound packages of 12 different types of fish, which I then freeze. Even two months later, they taste as fresh as their last day in the ocean. Some of my favorite choices include cod, whitefish, halibut, Atlantic salmon, Chilean sea bass, red snapper, haddock, grouper, mahi-mahi, swordfish, Dover sole, and flounder. And I always make sure to bring home a pound of Gulf shrimp. If you prefer, you can also find lobster, oysters, clams, mussels, or scallops available.
I've been visiting Burhop's since I was a kid, so I decided to stop by for some food on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, they didn't have any crab cakes or bread ready. I waited for them to prepare more, but it’s hard to believe they wouldn’t have those items available by 11 AM on a holiday when many people are looking to enjoy seafood. When I took my shrimp home, they had some really odd flavors; definitely not as fresh as I remember. The dips were good, but that’s pretty much the only positive thing I can say about this visit. The selection was quite limited. On a brighter note, the staff were very friendly! Just to clarify, I did call ahead, but no one answered.
The meal was overpriced. I ordered a pound of fish that cost nearly $30, and it had a very strong fishy odor that fresh fish shouldn't have. I won't be spending my money there again.
