I am so impressed with this place! I went last night for the first time with my gf and we absolutely loved it. The bartenders all pretty much greet every single person that walks through the door. The service was super fast while the entire place waspacked. The cocktails were super delicious! I?ve lived in this neighborhood for 8 years and never had a chance to visit thisspot. To be honest I think I found the new han... View all feedback.
What dat red raider doesn't like about Anvil Refuge:
classy bar with dim lighting, industrial digs quite fancy yet pricey cocktails. was pretty crowded on a friday night, sort of hard to order a drink. table seating was mostly taken while most only had standing room due to the narrow passways. my?sunbather? cocktail had exquisite presentation of mint melon. would return on a weekday when it?s not so packed! This place was great! We drove through Houston and looked for a cool drink, this place was legit. Cheap for delicious craft cocktails. Great service and a cool mood. It was a bit loud, so if you want a more intimate space, this is probably not your scene. Will definitely go back.
Stumbled upon this gem on a Wednesday night. I came here to get drinks for my friend's birthday after dinner. It was honestly the perfect way to end the night. The bar is dark, which can make it hard to see/read, but I'm assuming it contributes to the vibe the place is going for. We were able to find seats at the bar fairly quickly considering how busy it was for a weekday. I wish I got the name of the bartender who took care of us because he was FANTASTIC. As soon as we sat down, he got us situated with waters and checked in on us multiple times throughout the night. He gave us time to look over the super extensive menu over 100 drinks organized by flavor/alcohol type) and was patient with us while we were being indecisive. He asked us what kind of preferences we had when it came to our drinks and was able to give really great recommendations as well as create his own drink to match what we were looking for. I would say the cocktails are reasonably priced $13 each) but the portions vary slightly depending on the drink you get. My friend got the Missionary's Downfall while I got the Blue Hawaiian. The flavors meshed together so well in each drink. These drinks are dangerous! I had to be careful to pace myself with how delicious it was. Hers was peachy and fresh while mine had a little more depth from the coconut. The best part was how gorgeous they looked. The bartender created a drink for my other friend that was light, fresh, and minty, but had a serious jalapeno kick at the end that just completely elevated the experience. I can't wait to come back here and try some more of their fantastic menu.
Awesome cocktails with amazing vibes! All of the bartenders are experts who know what they're doing and produce unique, consistent, and great tasting cocktails every time. All of the staff at Anvil are friendly and great people. Some favorites from their 100 list: Missionary's Downfall, Old Fashioned, and CaipirinhaP.S. Anvil, please bring back Happy Hour
TLDR: Talented bartenders delicious drinks lively atmosphereMy coworker and I were in Houston for a work trip and wanted to find a cocktail bar to hang out at after work on a Friday night. We searched online and ended up hopping in an Uber to try out Anvil. The bar was incredibly busy (there was a post event group that filled most of the bar space) but we were helped as soon as we walked in the door by a friendly bartender. I was really impressed with the drinks the bartenders really know what they are doing here. Vibe is fun with a little bit of chaos in the mix. The bar itself is beautiful and the bartenders are fun to watch while the make the complex drink concoctions. We had our first round standing but we eventfully snagged two chairs at the bar top after the large group departed. Another bartender helped us with our next round and they were just as friendly and the drinks were perfect. I LOVE tiki/tropical style drinks so I got the Pismo Punch and a tiki style drink with grapefruit...I can't recall the name. But both were incredible and their prices are very reasonable!
Vibe- This is THE SPOT! It’s real chill and laid back. There’s a bar and about 10 booths with comfy seating. This is a nice spot to come to for a girl’s night out or date night.Customer service- Great! The bartender that helped me all night was great, he made the best drinks.Food/drinks- I had an Irish coffee and a grasshopper that was delicious. I also ordered the mushroom sandwich to eat and it was good!Parking- They have valet parking and a lot across the street with about 20 or so spots.
