If I ever make my kid's dad mad, this is where I go to buy forgive me food. Looking at the photos in this review simply has my mouth watering. Variety of seasonings and trap butta, you really cannot go wrong. Sometimes there's a line, sometimes they sell out of the good stuff. Trap Chowder, get there early if you're serious. Be sure to say hi to Chef Oya as well! Amazing food, always worth it, but don't go if you don... View all feedback.
What Rupert Kertzmann doesn't like about Chef Oya's The Trap:
The portions seem more than what they are. The food was very flavorful and wonderful however the potatoes weren't fork tender and the broccoli wasn't steamed tender, it too was hard almost raw with seasoning. The trap chowder wasn't thick however it was flavorful. Would I vist again no, I saw similar reviews regarding the potatoes but still wanted the experience. Again the food was flavorful however the price and por... View all feedback.
I've been trying to get myself to Chef Oya's The Trap for months, maybe a year now! You know why? They're open Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Do you know what else? You can only get away with those kinds of hours if your food is excellent. The bottom line is Chef Oya's food is absolutely fantastic! The food is fresh and just popping with flavor. Buttery, garlicky seafood sprinkled generously with parmesan. The potatoes, broccoli, and corn make for a perfect combination of tastes and textures. Large portions. Friendly service. Reasonable prices. One negative, aside from the limited hours, is that you'll need to take your food elsewhere or eat in your car.
So you go up to a window to order. There is a small plastic cutout, and It's really difficult to hear the person and they aren't so friendly. There is a speaker that cuts in and out.You order and they turn around and you receive it in about 3 minutes flat.Nothing is made to order. The broccoli was cold. But as long as you know what you're getting, this is an incredible value. I got the island curry loaded shrimp for $15. Shrimp was tender and basically perfect.I can't attest to the crab or lobster but I'd certainly be willing to give them a try next time.I just wish they had a place to sit or something. Just put a table out there somewhere. Oh, and why do we need a plastic cutout window? I guess it's the charm of the place but c'mon.Whatever 5 stars anyways.
Chef Oya's is a little takeout window on the side of the liquor store where you can get amazing food. Corn on the cob, a hard boiled egg, roasted potatoes, and the seafood of your choice all drenched in whichever Chef Oya's buttah you want. They are all delicious. Choose your level of spice and devour. Sooo good.
This is saved on my maps as “best seafood in town”. I went once with my man and we drove our happy selves 30+ mins home so we could REALLY enjoy it. pls don’t ever close down
Got two pints of Trap Chowder two shrimp trays to bring my love for lunch. I love the Sweet Chili Thai and Garlic OG Trap Butters as an addition to your meal. The quality and amount of food you get for what you pay is amazing— make sure to follow on Facebook for occasional daily/weekly deals. Chef Oya— and Oya’s cooking— are a gift. This is “take with you” food. If there is a wait in line, it’s worth it— don’t forget the Young Bae seasoning for a flavorful addition to already amazing food.
