What anorey doesn't like about Waverley Inn:
Have had many Sunday lunches at the Waverley but today's was awful. Broccoli and swede stone cold, not cooled down but absolutely cold. Gravy was thin and tepid. Meat was stringy. Potatoes were hot though. Never again which is a shame. View all feedback.

Excellent food and service with a smile.I really enjoyed my homemade shepherds pie and my friend enjoyed her vegan curry (cauliflower and chickpea). A generous helping and definitely homemade. The pub is very covid-19 savvy and take your details as you enter and there is a one-way system in place. Very safe and friendly service. The menu has been scaled down, but is more than ample to suit all tastes. They also have a very good specials board. I would recommend calling them to book a table, as space can be limited.
Dropped in here for a pint on a Sunday dinner time before a visit to the castle. Such a lovely, cosy pub. They were totally buzzing with tablefuls of people eating Sunday lunch. Locals chatted to me, a stranger, amiably as did the landlord and landlady. So I went away with warm impressions of the Waverley. It's a traditional pub, busy on a Sunday lunchtime the way they all used to be. It must have a good clientele, as they'd just raised over £2000 towards the refitting of their namesake the paddle steamer Waverley, of which there's a painted sign over the pub's front door. It's nice to see that pubs like this can still thrive. I recommend a visit, whether for a meal or, like me, just for a pint.
Just want to say thank you to Julie, Tim and all the Waverley team for making our stay so lovely! Very welcoming and friendly. Room was lovely and clean with a nice hot shower. Didn’t go anywhere else to eat as the food was amazing and always came out hot! Superb gem to visit on the island. Many thanks Stew, Karlene and Bruno
Arrived with a couple of friends for a birthday one nighter. Although the hotel isn't signposted from the road as the bottom of the hotel is a pub also, once we located it, there was plenty of parking.Check in was painless and all done in a few moments. The room we had was a family room, 1 double and 3 singles (room number 1). We had our own bathroom, and the decor was immaculate and well looked after. The bar itself has a pool table and dartboard and jukebox which is all in an enclosed area which I thought was nice. The beer prices weren't overly expensive and there is plenty of choice and range. We decided to eat at the pub before we headed to town. I had the ribs, which although were a little chewy for my liking, were still delicious nonetheless and I ate the lot. Taxis into the centre of Newport were only 5 pounds, (use a company called alpha) and they're are plenty of eateries and bars and lively venues dotted all around.Breakfast the next morning was delicious, I had the smaller of the 2 breakfast options, but if you're feeling particularly hungry, try the larger breakfast which was basically double of everything. Only 2 very small quibbles. The stairwell leading to the rooms could do with a spot of decluttering. And as we're not from the area, we asked the barmaid where the best places were for a drink. While she was explaining where the best places were, a woman on her laptop in the bar (I'll assume this was the landlady) interrupted her and said something about the fact that she was 19 and we are 38-42 age range that we would perhaps not like those types of venue. It almost felt like she had inferred (perhaps not intentionally) that we were too old to frequent the places suggested!Neither of these quibbles would deter me from visiting Newport again, nor would it stop me from staying in a lovely, well run and friendly pub/hotel again for a return visit. Thank you waverley for your hospitality, until next time...
