Our party of 4 met at Takao that is in the KaikTavern in Kaiapoi Don’t let it’s location put you off, as other than parking in the tavern carpark, you don’t go into the bar areas !! Once inside the intimate restaurant it feels like you are in a Japan. Two teppanyaki hot plates are the feature with about six other tables. Really enjoyed dinner here smaller than the one by countdown with a cozier atmosphere

Once inside the intimate restaurant it feels like you are in a Japan. Two teppanyaki hot plates are the feature with about six other tables. Three of us chose the takao special and one the meat special. Starters, spring rolls or salad and desserts were included in the very reasonable fixed prices. The main course was delicious and beautifully presented by the two chefs. Highly recommend this restaurant, we will be back
This is our go to regular place to eat out. Although the seating has changed slightly the atmosphere is still good. Fabulous food and plenty of choice. The childrens menu is great which is all cooked on the tappan in front of you. Staff alway friendly and helpful. Great night or early evening out and would definitely recommend it.
Best dining experience if ever had. Thank you awesome service friendly staff.
Best value teppanyaki to be had anywhere. Fabulous food too, especially the prawns. One slight criticism. It can sometimes feel like a race to stay ahead of the chef, as the food can come off the hot plate pretty quickly. Not the showiest teppanyaki around; just the best.
