What Richard V doesn't like about The Boat Inn:
It took us a while to figure out that we were supposed to order at the bar. That's what the staff should have pointed to earlier. But after that, the food was on the table pretty quick. Food was okay. The salad was fresh. The sandwich was a little dry. The big plus is obviously the view of Kielder Water. The free wifi didn't work 100%. The whole stretch on a beautiful summer day in august 2021 radierte. starts in the visitor center to load the entire day parking card from the £5,) other parking need cash for the machines annoying cannot pay with the card). there are good signs and we enjoyed the trip. you need some good legs to stay on the hills, I had to get rid of a few times, but my friend was okay. we cycled 3 hours over 23.3 miles. add them to a few stops for a picnic and photo possibilities we were there good 4 hours. hopefully we will do it again.
Fab place. Lovely walks. So much to do. Bonus of being able to stay overnight
Good place to bring the kids local bike hire shop for the trails salmon center and keilder Castle and forest drive closed at the moment during to season and castle visitor center refurbishment
I've been visiting kielder most weekends for past 20 years or more, visiting all the walks on track and into forest, we at least try to visit ww2 crash site a couple of times a year, although the area has massively changed since the felling of the trees around the plane but still a magical place to visit..
Lovely scenery, but we were hoping to see wildlife. There wasn’t any, despite the perfect weather and the website promising a huge variety. We see more in our garden in Bristol. Would recommend but not if you’re going specifically to see red squirrels, water voles, otters etc.
