"A fabulous atmosphere, wonderful and attentive staff. in the reception area, which was perfect after a long trip, served prelunch drinks. elterns had a great roast beef dinner; cooked to perfection, with beautiful grooms. I had the fish cake I was sad that I didn't feel hungry enough to finish. the fish cake was packed with whole pieces of large fish and huge garnels. mash to hit my grandmother (by knaresborough) fishcake. that was my first visit to the general; the family has eaten and stayed here. my elders finished with sticky toffee powder and shared it. the first glass chardonnay I had was easy, the second was creamy. I would have appreciated the advice on the change. the personal was so wonderfully individual in their approach. it made the sometimes stuffed approach of derbyshire restaurants/pubs so relaxing. the general tarleton should be regarded as a real local and regional institution. food, service, atmosphere, everything is perfect."

"High above jo jo maman bebe. excellent service and a good selection of tapas dishes. my partner and I chose to eat from the tapas menu instead of the main menu of the full-fledged dishes, so can not comment, but the tapas was beautiful. many vegetarian options (caric mushrooms were great we had four tapas each, which were a good amount of food, but I wouldn't say we were absolutely filled."

"What a great way to end our first day in york. as we had already eaten a full meal during the day, we were just looking for some light to eat and a refreshing glass or two rose’ it is not the cheapest, but definitely worth the visit and we will be back soon. an excellent table outside on the deck with views of the river, served by amazing friendly staff, thank you."

"These are hands down the best fish and chips ive had in a long time! Fish was fresh and batter was super crispy, chips were like they’d been triple cooked and the curry sauce was nice and thick! recommend. "I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. I cant fault anything. The food was amazing and all of it equally as good, impossible to pick a favourite dish. The service was great as well. If you are a table of two I recommend sitting up the kitchen as I enjoyed watching what the chefs were doing and seeing all the other dishes. Can't wait to go back very soon"
