"Probably the tastiest fish and chips I've ever had. The service was great and the lady taking my order asked if I'd like Hake, rather than Haddock. I love Hake so I'm glad it was offered and shows the benefits of a restaurant in a fishing village as they flex to the catch of the day. A short wait later and my order was called and we sat in the harbour and ate beautifully cooked hake that was grease-free with a sumptuous golden batter and superb chips. Literally couldn't recommend more highly."

"The food is great!! Incredible is what i can say. One personal recommendation is that when you call for potatoes just call for less as the portion feels too much with the rest of the food. "We dropped in for Sunday Roast missed the last of the beef, which was lucky because I got to have the lamb shank, which was just amazing! My wife had a stuffed roast squash. We loved the vibe, the dogs hanging with their owners Hi Jura! , the staff seemed gruff at first, but somehow magically transformed into super nice and friendly. Highly recommended, especially Sunday roast and Jura the local dog . Food: 5"

"At very short notice our plans changed for our 25th wedding anniversary. So we went to Mallaig. Booked into another hotel for 4 nights as The Steam Inn was full. However, on our 3rd 4th morning we had breakfast at the Steam Inn. 2nd 3rd evening had dinner there too. Will give every detail possible. At every visit we were attended to as soon as we walked in. Gave us good time to decide took our orders very attentively. Any request was no trouble at all. 1st morning, hubby ordered kippers but they were finished (thats because we left breakfast till very late morning) so both of us ordered toasted muffin with poached eggs hollandaise sause and requested for smoked salmon to be added. Poached eggs were 100% perfect. Not snotty but beautifully runny, muffins lightly toasted, plenty moist smoked salmon, fresh spinach leaves, lovely hollandaise sauce and beautifully presented...with fresh lemon. After serving our breakfast waiter made a point off coming over to check if all was okor if we needed anything else. Now that's customer service. Not only that we had small chit chat too. 2nd morning I had the same but asked for half portion as they are very generous. Again, the same presentation, prefect poached egg etc Hubby ordered porridge. It blew us away. Porridge came with lightly sprinkled fresh summer berries a bottle of honey to squeeze on any amount at your own leisure (u can order maple syrup, sugar or salt too). It wasn't stoggy or too runny...just perfect....as expected. Dinner on both nights we had Cullen skink soup for starters. Very tasty generous portion. Only disappointment...not enough fish too many tatties. Main course...fish n chips. Nice crispy battered fish, with minty mushy peas, fresh lemon and best chips we have ever had...fresh potato chips...again....perfect. The cooking standards are same at every meal times, ingredients used are definitely fresh locally sourced. Service is impeccable. We had a great banter with Gary Colin. They made us feel sooo comfortable. The staff are very well trained...very polite. Next time we will book at The Steam Inn for sure. Rooms look fab along with a beautiful beer garden. Prices are cheaper than most of the other places. I would however recommend the owner to upgrade the seating fabric tables. Highly recommend this place for friendly atmosphere, perfect customer service 5 star food. Thanku guys...keep it up...see u again...very soon. Sam Omar. Nearby activities: Jacobite train...wildlife boat trip...crossings over to other islands by Calmac...souvenir shops along with Chemist post office etc (all u wld expect to find in a small village.....Best of all over 6 beaches with breath taking views, e.g. White sands, silver sands, Camusdarach beach campsite etc Food drinks: A few Fish n chip restaurants n takeaways, Inns, pizza place, a couple of public bars."

"We had fantastic weather so we could sit outside. It is beautiful. They do lunch really quickly since we were on limited time because we were there with a coach trip. Good was fantastic. We had fish and chips and shrimp dishes. Nice experience."
