"Monchengladbach Museum Abteiberg. Of course, I knew we would starve after that, so I had a table for 3 people in the Vayra reservation one day before. 6:00 p.m., over 3 steps we go to the restaurant, we are kindly greeted by a young Indian, traditionally dressed in a very elaborately worked Sari, and we are assigned a table in the front guest room in the immediate vicinity of a 6-member company. Our desire to go to the back of the restaurant is not a problem. The two small windows donate only little light here and it is relatively dark at our place. Another young waitress, also in the Sari, appears with three menus, ignites the candle in the brass stand and asks if we want to eat à la carte or buffet. My two companions choose the buffet (14,50 €), the price for children up to and including 11 J. is 7, € . I am not a big fan of this self-service, but I would like to join today, so I have the opportunity to taste some of the Indian dishes that were not yet known to me. Our drinks are asked, I would like to know in advance whether the Indian rose is dry, with this term the young lady cannot start, so I ask a little more. No, the wine is not sweet. Beverages are fast and perfectly tempered, Mango Lassi 0.3 l to 2,10 €, a Pils hate killer 0.3 l to 2, € and a rose 0.2 l to 3,60 €, unfortunately no Indian wine, but that was obviously a misunderstanding. There's plenty of food available, I tried with my companions too. Pork, pigs, pigs, pussies, pussies fish saag: this dish I did not know yet and I am very positively surprised, well hot, the salmon fillet juicy, the spinach not boiled, in a well seasoned saffron sauce Chicken Vidaloo: chicken breast fillet with potatoes in a south Indian Vidaloosauce, hot, very sharp and very harmoniously seasoned all in all. The service staff is friendly and very friendly here, the restaurant is very well visited on Saturday night, used plates are cleaned immediately, we are asked to our satisfaction and other beverage requests, 0.3 l of coke at 2, €, a soft velvet (not recommended since you better drink water 0.33 l to 2.20 € and this time Indian Rose Sula 0.2 l to 4.20 € are brought again very quickly. The wine is not, as expected, dry but semi-dry too sweet and very fruity, initially disappointing, it later fits quite well with the very sharp Chicken Vidaloo. Ambience: The furniture is very simple but not really beautiful, dark brown plastic chairs, wood decoration, narrow orange table runners, folded paper napkins, a white ceramic vase with rose, besides the buffet a huge wooden elephant, on the walls orange-colored slumpflaster, a large painted Taj Mahal, the two wall lights between look very unhappy, beautiful living. The heavily refurbished toilets are located in the basement, here the plaster crumbles from the walls, the door frames are completely damaged and in the corners the dirt collects. The dining room included buffet was clean. I can recommend food to any buffet fan. Food 4* Service 4* Ambience 2* Cleanliness 2* PLV 4*"

"Fresh mushrooms on pasta with a delicious glass of white wine and cheerful friendly service. The boss reads the map before and in the kitchen hear Italian plumage. A nice evening I'll like to repeat."

"Classic Irish bar service. Beer was good as expected. Not sure if the service was just tiered on that day I visited but definitely ripe to clock out. Also the English/German handling was a bit confusing. What I mean is I talk in German they reply in English, I ask in English they reply in German. Funny haha but that made the 3 stars. I felt not satisfied after having my beer there."

"I decided to wander around town in search of a decent restaurant. To be honest I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I started first with the internet and keyed in 'Italian restaurants in Dusseldorf' but the best ones, according to Trip Advisor, were a good 25-minute walk away (excluding Da Bruno, which was closed) and I really wasn't inspired enough to go on some kind of trek. Close to my hotel I found Jaipur, an Indian restaurant. I wanted to get off the street and into somewhere cosy where I could chill for a while. Jaipur seemed to fit the bill, but it wasn't cosy enough, it simply didn't cut the mustard. First I ordered a Warsteiner but was given a Paulaner – odd when Warsteiner is advertised all over the place – on the menus, outside the restaurant – but I wasn't complaining. Then I asked for poppadams, expecting the usual plate-sized variety but getting instead a couple of dozen mini poppadums the size of a 2p coin. Very disappointing.I certainly picked the wrong table, right by the door. Every time somebody walked in I got a cold blast of April weather. It went right through me. Decor-wise it was fairly basic: red and beige tablecloths with a bar/servery counter on the back wall and tables in front of it.The waiter was the height of good manners: polite, friendly, he passed with flying colours.A hot plate arrived, always a pleasant moment of the Indian restaurant experience, but not today. It was cold. Put it this way, I could easily place my hand palm down on it without risk of burning myself. The food followed and, fortunately, it wasn’t cold.I had ordered a chicken curry dish with pillau rice and a nan bread and found the entire meal a disappointment. First the rice was a little on the crunchy side (not what I'm used to in the UK) and the chicken, while fine, was chewy and Gristly and nothing like the prime chicken breast meat I would have been served in an English Indian restaurant. Theoretically they should be in the same ballpark, Germany is, after all, a Western European country. The meal was sort of average and I kind of regretted making the decision to cross the threshold of Jaipur, although, that said, I might be completely wrong about the place. I say that because as I was about to leave many Indian customers came in, virtually taking over the restaurant, and having so many Indians sitting in an Indian restaurant is, in my opinion, the best review an Indian restaurateur can expect. So I started to reappraise my attitude towards the place, although I stand by what I have written. Put it this way, I felt reassured about Jaipur's credentials. At the end of the meal I was given some scented 'bird seed' – a kind of Eastern Trill – to refresh my mouth. It did the trick. The bill was around 26 Euros, which was a fair price for what I'd eaten."
