Excellent service! The food was definitely worth waiting! Best Prime Rib Sandwich I've ever had. My husband got fried chicken and it was crispy and delicious! Daughter and son in the law got Lammburger and loved her. Love the whole story! Great place to bring people from the city View all feedback.
What Joyce F doesn't like about The Black Horse Tavern:
We've definitely had better experiences at the Golden Lamb. On Fri Aug 9th around 4:30, I ordered the scallops which were not large scallops, therefore was surprised there were only three on my plate above the carrot purée and a few asparagus spears. For the price and size, I would think four or five would be appropriate. The waiter seemed a little rushed even though there were only three tables in our room. Sadly, t... View all feedback.
Great food and great service from Lexy. she was the server I've had in a very long time.
I love the history of this location and how kind the wait staff were to me and my family. It was pouring outside and we were able to enter the restaurant through the bar area. The food itself was tasty but wasn't anything impressive. However, it wasn't super expensive and I liked the area we sat. My favorite thing was the sugar pie we had for dessert.

Lastly, my husband and I both though that they need a wider choice of entrees, or at least change them up more season to season. Odd that they only have 9 or 10 entrees yet 3 of them are vegetarian not exactly commensurate with the population/clientele.
My father in law has talked about the abundant history the food at the Golden Lamb for as long as I've known him (7 years) so we finally made the short drive from Chillicothe to have lunch there today. The area around the GL is quaint with history markers every few feet. The restaurant itself is filled with period furniture décor. A casual restaurant but it also feels a little more upscale just based on the decorations, layout, overall atmosphere. We were told we would have an hour to hour a half wait so we decided to go to the antique store next door. Before we could even get to the storefront my phone dinged saying our table was ready. Less than 5 minutes after giving our name! Once we were seated we had our drinks in less than 2 minutes an appetizer order was placed. We went with the cheese curds because father in law Randy somehow HAD NEVER HAD CHEESE CURDS. They were well battered served piping hot 10/10. Needless to say, he liked them. I ordered the shepherds pie, my wife ordered the house salad with salmon, FIL Randy ordered the quarter fried chicken. Everything arrived quickly was very good. I heard no complaints from my picky eaters as I was discovering all of the tasty goodness hidden in my shepherds pie. I'd highly recommend it as it's the best iteration of the classic dish I have ever had. $105 for three good meals, an appetizer, complimentary bread with homemade apple butter, a sweet tea, a local beer. Including a nice tip for the waitstaff. I think it is well worth the price for an enjoyable lunch in a history rich setting such this.
Visited the Golden Lamb as a post holiday meal in a family of 6. We really enjoy coming a few times a year, especially when the inn and restaurant are decorated for the holidays. We had a reservation and were able to be seated early. Everyone is always so friendly here! We really enjoyed the apps and cocktails. They both came out quickly while we looked over the menu. The braised short rib was so good. I really liked the flavors combined with the polenta. My brother chose the Shepherd's pie (pictured) and he really enjoyed his choice. Someone at the table also chose the vegetarian main, the butternut squash lasagna. A great evening !
