The General Lewis Inn is just beyond beautiful and charming! We stayed at the Inn for a wedding, and the room was so lovely with such wonderful attention to detail. The wedding we attended was at the Inn and the location, food, and entire celebration was extraordinary. One of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been too. Not very accommodating in the restaurant. They were not willing to go out of their way to accommodate a wedding party that wanted to sit together for an important meal. The host just said it couldn't be done and from a long time ago past visit, we knew that it was possible to get seating arranged for the entire party at one table. Advance reservations were even made. The host was brazen in his stance that he wasn't going to even try. The wait staff was not receptive to returning undercooked temperature of steaks to the kitchen when told it wasn't cooked enough. They asked, kind of bothered, if I wanted them to take it back for the second attempt at getting a steak cooked correctly. The filet had gristle running through it and seemed more like a ribeye. The steak quality has went down hill since our last visit six months ago when a filet was actually a filet. And don't have any dietary needs that need to be adhered to. They have no desire to go out of their way for that either. They serve a potato and mixed vegetables, so either accept that even if you have an onion/garlic allergy, they can't help you. So if you want anything other than cookie cutter service, this isn't the place for you. We'll never be back and will let every person I know about every experience we've had. Will recommend the livery. They are accommodating to my dietary needs and will make sure my real filet is always cooked correctly before I leave and I don't feel like I've bothered someone. No kids menu either so unless they want a burger, then it's slim pickings. I'm sure the owner will respond snidly to my review, which seems to be par for where the staff get their direction from. Some of the responses from past reviews are just inappropriate at best, and there is no need to respond to this, as we know you'll have nothing to say but lies regarding our review. Noted that you've had no problem saying others are doing that very thing as well in their reviews. . I have nothing to lose like yourself, other than by posting to inform others, so readers, you decide who you want to believe. Service: 2
The General Lewis is a unique hotel with a nice restaurant and bar. The location is superb as it is located in walking distance to nearly all of Historic Downtown Lewisburg. The hotel is historic and full of charm. During our stay there was an outdoor concert in the courtyard, which was free to hotel guests. The hotel also left an adorable welcome basket for check in which included spring water, cookies, and a guide to the town. The bed was rather stiff but not uncomfortable. The bathroom was adequate but dated. The bath amenities included robes, slippers, and toiletries. The staff were friendly and attentive. The hotel offered complimentary breakfast sweets and coffee. We enjoyed our stay and would return again if in the area. Rooms: 4 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Great view, Quiet

This place is simply magical! My husband and I first stayed here on our mini-moon on our way south to Asheville and enjoyed it so much that, upon checkout, we booked another night for our return trip! We have since returned for two weekend-long stays, and booking a future stay has now become kind of a tradition (upon checking out last summer we booked a stay for our first anniversary in October, and upon checkout then we booked for our upcoming second anniversary! The inn has a charm reminiscent of European inns and the bygone days of travel, lovingly updated to welcome today’s modern travelers, with several places to kickback and relax, including the wonderful, large front porch, beautiful rear patio and gardens, and the lovely Thistle Lounge, which also features an incredible cocktail bar! The restaurant is delicious, the staff friendly and attentive, and the rooms, many of which have been recently renovated, are comfortable and well-appointed with wonderful details and character (we enjoy staying in a new room each visit and our favorites so far have been the John Winthrow and Pearl S. Buck rooms . The location is perfect, making it easy to walk to the great restaurants and shops nearby. If you are looking for a wonderful getaway in a unexpectedly quaint cool town, look no further!
