One of the oldest pubs in Liverpool and used to hang John Lennon's where he started his first band called The Dissenters. I 'd been recommended this pub for its real ale, and wasn 't disappointed! It was like stepping back in time with its plain wooden floors, a few adverts on the walls, and I 'm told that there is still a spittoon although I didn 't see it. There is a beer garden but I didn 't explore as I needed some shade on a hot day. I had a pint of Twisted Vine from a Wigan brewery which was excellent. It 's off the beaten track b...
