What Bert Wolff doesn't like about Tobaki:
What's wrong with it? It was a nice place to hang out with friends. Now everything is down, bad food, terrible meat and service, the table corner is falling apart , it takes risks to injury customers, gas stove looks lack of maintain. I can't believe they still rising the price. $28.50 per head... View all feedback.

I would steer well clear of this place. At $28.50 per head, I had two bowls of steamed rice as I think it's the only thing I felt somewhat safe eating. The place was filthy, the tables were falling apart creating a huge health risk in its own right and if the meat didn't look dodgy enough, the hot plates would not get hot enough to cook most of the stuff through without considerable time. The health inspectors need a good hard look at this place. If only you could rate it a zero!!!
Worst food in brisbane. NOTHING is kept warm. And the 'prawns'? Taste like they have been frozen and defrosted 20 times. Close to the worse prawns we have ever had. The fact everything was cold made it taste so awful. The meat to cook yourself was VERY average. Will never ever go back not even for $5 a person let alone $28.50 Give us our money back you grubs. Ugh.
We came here tonight hoping it would be the same place it was before it changed owners. I had never been, but my hubby had and said it was great. He now says it's definitely gone downhill. I was actually surprised at how busy Tobaki got by the time we left because we wouldn't go back there again. Pros: - We were served by a nice young man who had a subtle but constant smile on his face. - For 25.50pp all you can eat, the price is pretty good. - Some of the meat was marinated and the marinade was nice. - They had self-serve kimchi which was nice. Cons: - The restaurant itself is too open. This is a problem because they serve uncovered pre-cooked dishes. I saw the workers shooing away flies/bugs over the open food when we arrived. - The pre-cooked food didn't look like it had been prepared recently (as in it didn't look hot or at all appetizing). I held my hand out over the food station and no heat was coming out of it at all, meaning nothing's kept warm. I just tried a bit of the rice noodles they only tasted of pepper and stir-fried veges. Not very tasty, but that's kinda typical for that dish, I guess. - The actual number of side dishes is quite limited. - The raw meat didn't look fresh or appetising. We BBQ'd the hell out of ours, so hopefully we won't get food poisoning. - I asked my hubby to check if the seafood seemed okay and he said it didn't look right, so we didn't risk it. We saw other people eating it though. - We were given an obviously dirty cup for our water. - The place itself looks dodgy. Usually something like that wouldn't bother me so much, but this place is really unpolished. - There's nothing to suck the smoke from your BBQ into. Most Korean BBQ joints have a tube you can pull down from the ceiling to suck up the smoke. Not this place. We were seated outside and our smoke was blowing directly onto a group of people seated at the neighbouring restaurant. Needless to say those people weren't too happy with us. - The grills/metal plate they give you to BBQ your meat on aren't sprayed with any kind of oil and they aren't non-stick. As a result, your waiter needs to come around quite often to change it over. - I spent most of the meal wishing I had napkins as I couldn't see any around. I should have asked for something sooner, but they should put them out on the table automatically. You can get a box of tissues if you ask for one. - Last but not least (and this is quite important for me) THERE WAS NO CREAMY POTATO/ CREAMY PASTA SALAD!!! How are you meant to balance out all the spicy kimchi without any creamy salad?!? I consider this a cardinal sin. Every other Korean place I've been to has served it, and I was really looking forward to it, and it just wasn't there. So there you have it. Usually I'm a lot more positive about places I go to than this, but gotta tell it as it is.
