Best bbq in town! I'm trying to avoid red meat lately, so instead of getting succulent brisket and their yummy pulled pork, I tried the chicken, it is amazing! Well smoked, juicy and flavourful! The apple pie baked beans and corn bread are a side must! Can't beat the sauce!Food: 5/5 View all feedback.
What Stacey P doesn't like about Beef Butter Bbq:
My mother and I decided to go here for her Mother's Day lunch, because it had great reviews. I honestly don't know where those reviews came from, because it wasn't good at all. The food was cold, semi-warm at best. The brisket was dry. My mom did like the flavor of the apple beans. It was freezing inside the restaurant. The food was very mediocre, and I would never go again, especially when there is a really good BBQ... View all feedback.
Went on a Tuesday afternoon after lunch. Thought we would stop by before heading back to MKE since it’s touted at Madison’s #1 BBQ joint and we didn’t have to go out of my way to make a stop. Plus, we also love finding bbq gems in WI.The young lady was very friendly and helpful when we shared it was our first time. She gave her suggestions and we got some of the things she recommended. Our overall take was Beef Butter BBQ was just ok, average at best. Here’s why:1. The pulled pork had no seasoning, some parts were greyish in color. It was very dry.2. Brisket was very dry and hard to eat. It did not taste like it was seasoned. In my opinion, a good brisket is seasoned well and should not depend on any sauce to give it flavor. Definitely disappointed in it.3. Jalapeño cheddar sausage had the best flavor. It was well seasoned and a good mix of jalapeño and cedar with each bite. The only thing that I worked like to see imprudent on is got there to be a snap when you bite into it. The casing on the sausage was wrinkly and had no snap. I’m not sure if it was sitting around or overcooked, but it was a bit dry (could be that the lean meat ratio was higher).4. Mac and cheese and cornbread: these were the best thing in the platter! Mac and cheese had a good taste. It was slightly soft, not mushy yet. I prefer al dente, with a slight bite. Cheese sauce was good, they did not skip out on it. And the cornbread … yum!! Don’t sleep on the cornbread.Perhaps we’ll have to give it another try during a busier period. Sorry, we ate the sides before getting pictures bc it was so good!
Great barbecue! We came here on a weeknight and were impressed by the selection. The 3 meat plate was big enough for 2 to share and we had some good sodas as well. My favorite was the pulled pork, but my partner favored the brisket. Apple pie beans were sweet, but yummy. Corn bread and Mac and cheese were the fan favorite sides. Nice, chill atmosphere for dinner. We’ll be back!
Very delicious ribs. Exactly what I was looking for. Good prices. Wooden benches for outdoor seating. And they sell frozen meat of all kind for customers to bring home.
Feel like BBQ today and have never been in this place so we went for early dinner today. I have the Baby back ribs with coleslaw and potato chip. Also ordered an extra salad. My companion ordered BBQ chicken with their corn bread and a salad.Ordering is easy and done at the counter. You get the food right away after you pay.In my opinion, we do not have great BBQ places in town, but this place is like Famous Dave, the other generic BBQ place in the city. The items offered are similar, but in Beef Butter you can order items by the pound. Both meats where very dry and a bit tough, I am used to this in meat, so I did not mind that part. The flavor was generic with the usual spices and maybe a bit too much artificial smoke. I did not feel it was too salty or particular greasy meat. The coleslaw was also very average with lots of mayo. We like the corn bread very much and the mustard vinaigrette we opted for on our salads. Overall, the flavor was not so great for me to justify the drive to the far north of the city. One thing that took a bit from our experience is that we found particles of aluminum foil embedded in some of our meat. This may have been a fluke that day, but I think they cut the meats in top of the foil they use for keeping the meat warm, and some very small and long thin strips of the foil get into the portions of meat they serve. Probably done with a sharp knife. This is something they should be concerned with, since ingesting particles of aluminum may not be so great. The atmosphere is not existing and the place looks half clean. Just like a BBQ place. The staff is professional and friendly. I will go back sometime I have BBQ cravings and find myself in that part of town.
Some of the best brisket I've had in a long time. They serve Prime brisket here, so I'm sure that has something to do with it, but you could tell they really took their time slow-cooking it.I asked for it nice and marbled and got it just like that--and had I wanted it lean (like a weirdo), that was available too!Their service here is great as well. There's one dude--a sausage-maker of over 35 years, who makes all of the sausages they serve here--who really took the time to show me how much they care and some of the things they do, cooking-wise, that makes them different from other places. The ONLY critique I'd give is that the brisket seemed slighty, SLIGHTLY undersalted, which is totally fine, as I'd rather have under than over. That said, it wasn't even to the point where I needed to add salt, so I'm not sure it's truly worth mentioning. Haha, maybe I just want to show that I'm willing to be 100% honest with my reviews!Great place, and I will 100% be back
