"We came as a family last Sunday and couldn’t believe how cute the little building was on the outside and transported you back in time when you stepped into the tea parlour. Our host was Stacey who was really friendly, funny and attentive. We decided to go get a selection of the classic afternoon tea and savoury afternoon tea- both were so tasty and made to order. The bread for the sandwiches was so soft, the fillings especially the egg mayonnaise was creamy and not eggy in the slightest. The cheese scones and pork pie were delightful too (Stacey told their secret to making the cheese scones so light and fluffy). The onion marmalade was so moorish we ended up buying a bottle to take home. The classic afternoon tea was also delicious with everything being well presented, sweet but not too sweet and plentiful (we took a doggy bag home). The presentation of our afternoon teas was lovely and we loved the china as it dates back from the early 1900s and some from the mid-late 1800s. I have to say that this is the best afternoon tea I’ve had in the U.K. and after travelling and living abroad. It is definitely worth booking going, you won’t regret it and I can’t wait to go back!"

"Well what a lovely stay we had, checked into the White Horse after visiting York, we were given the warmest welcome by John and Dawn. After we were settled into our lovely room Rose room) which was really comfortable and cosy, especially the super...king bed, we wondered down to the bar and restaurant for an evening meal. Again we were greeted by the friendly hosts and even the regulars made us feel welcome. Food was not a disappointment either yummy). Amazing nights sleep followed and then a great breakfast. Thanks again John and Dawn could not fault a thing."

"We had a wonderful time to visit willowgate bistro to the birthday of my friend. we had arrived a little late, but after a quick phone call the team was more than happy to accommodate us a little later than booked. I was thrilled to see that she bought a beautiful birthday balloon and positioned it next to our quiet table in the corner of the restaurant. what a nice touch! the food was fabulous we had duck and steak followed by lemon cheesecake and chocolate tar, all cooked and beautifully presented. the wee and the cocktails were excellent and the staff could not have done for us anymore. we had a fabulous meal in the willowgate bistro and have already booked to return this weekend as the last meal of our holiday. very recommended, thanks to many!"

"The pub serves an excellent choice of beers and is very fortunate to have very attentive, polite and friendly staff. The food was fine. Sadly the room number 1 is along side the main road and traffic noise is horrendous from early morning. The window in the room needs something to shut the noise out, perhaps secondary double glazing, which might help. Finally the radiator thermostat was damaged, causing the room to become unbearably hot. Not a good night's sleep. If these problems were sorted, it would have been a happy stay over. Don't get me wrong, it really is a lovely pub."

"Revisited here today and it was fabulous! I had the Chapter One classic burger with chips and slaw and it was out of this world! It honestly was one of THE best burgers I've had in a long long time and the homemade chips and slaw were fabulous, can't wait to visit again.
