I still can’t think of one. The pictures will not do justice. The service was great the food was amazing. My wife has celiac and was able to easily find gluten free options. The waitress gave many options. I would eat my way through the entire menu if I was in town long enough. I am already planning another trip back just to eat here again. A slice of heaven!
We had only one night in Maratea and wanted to try an authentic Basilicata meal. After much research, we decided on La Taverna Di Zu Cicco and we were not disappointed. The restaurant offers a small, intimate outdoor seating area in an alley/square off the main street. My husband and I shared three dishes, which he let me choose. I opted for the bacalla with the crusty peppers in honor of my grandfather. When I was quite young, my grandfather lovingly referred to me and my cousin as his “Bessie Bacallas”. Having never had bacalla, I was not sure what I would think and was afraid it would taste overly salty. It was not overly salty. I actually really loved it as did my husband. We also shared Podolico Cacciocavallo Cheese with spicy red chili peppers and rosemary (a local cheese prepared a bit like a flattened mozzarella stick), which was flavorful and delicious. The chili peppers definitely offered a kick, which I adore. Finally, we shared a local Maratea sausage with peppers. Both my husband and I loved this and would have a hard time selecting our favorite of the three dishes as the entire meal was delicious. I would definitely eat here again and recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
We ate here two nights in a row, that's how good we found this restaurant to be. The first night we just walked by and got a table. My husband had baccala and I had a traditional dish with sausage. Very good, but I got intrigued by his baccala cod with crusty pepper so the next night we had booked and we both had baccala. And nice wine, nice service and a lovely atmosphere in a back lane of the main street in central Maratea. To be recommended!!
The only place known where the cover charge is for some sliced bread handed to you in a bag! Not a good start and whilst the parmigiana was tasty, the steaks were not. Overall however, what let it down was the service. For what is not a cheap meal one would expect a better, more pleasant experience.
Cucina tradizionale molto gustosa, ottimi i ravioli con cannella e zucchero e salsa di carne, il bruschettone con baccalà e formaggio è DIVINO.
