OK, you see that it might need a bit of renovation but, the kitchen or betteer said cuisine in this case, is outstanding. Whenever been there, Christian Jurecz and his staff do magic. Dining there is an experience. View all feedback.
We have been going to Gourmet Wagner for years and have always enjoyed our meal there. The restaurant is quiet with very good food, very good service and a nice wine list. Mrs. Wagner was managing the dining room and made us feel warmly welcome as always. She recommended some good wines to accompany our meal and stayed within the taste range we were looking for. The service team working with her were efficient and well trained (our glasses were never empty, service was spot on) having seen them on my last visits. For starters, my husband had the beef tartar and I had the variety of foie gras. We both have been lucky enough to enjoy lots of delicious gourmet meals but when we come to Gourmet Wagner, we are able to enjoy very traditional well made food without too much fuss or fanciness to muck up the strong flavours and techniques for the dishes. The beef tartar was really good with a perfect balance with a lovely light freshly grated cheese and a well spiced beef with caviar on top. My foie gras variations were lovely with a foie gras ice cream I could have enjoyed triple portions of, a nice foie gras cake and a block of foie gras in an ice wine gelee. All was just excellent with the right portions which were generous and well presented. For our entrees, we had the lobster truffle noodles and the mixed fish plate. Both excellent with fresh seafood perfectly cooked and presented. The lobster had shaved truffles on the fresh noodles and the portion again was generous my personal favourite – I always have this dish! The mixed fish plate had a variety of 4 or 5 fish steaks, each spiced and flavoured to bring out the best of each type of fish. You were certainly full after the meal with all of the additional amuse bouche courses as well.If you are in the Mayen area, looking for some gourmet food to re-invigorate your flavor palate out of the standard German village fare, then I would suggest you try this place. It is a wonderful change of pace and you will be treated to some sophisticated flavours, fresh ingredients and good service to boot. We will be back again as always.
