Food was fantastic. Wine pairing didn't necessarily match each course selection I made, but each glass was delicious and enjoyable. Service was also great. Would absolutely visit again. View all feedback.
What Tim Meuter doesn't like about The Red Fox Inn Tavern:
Disappointing evening, particularly so because of the 4 course prix fixe requirement. Fig tart was served cold and 2nd course of bisque was lukewarm. Sea Scallops were OK, just a little too salty. Used as a filming location for Season 3 Episode 3 of the TV show “The West Wing”. Episode name: “Manchester Part 2”
Four course meal was delightful- savory dishes were on point. Cornbread and amuse bouche were a delightful surprise. Scallop ceviche and vichyssoise were nice, best item was the red snapper with the corn risotto and my friend's rabbit was also very tasty. The only thing that was a surprise miss was dessert. While the previous 3 courses were well balanced and delicious my chocolate dessert was heavy and dense that I didn't even try to finish it. I was expecting a light chocolate mouse but I had to dig hard to pull it and it just didn't end the meal well. My friends dessert was also lacking the cream cheese in her cake was overpowering would have been better with something lightly whipped like marscapone or whip cream.

Several good qualities about Red Fox: the ambiance was unique and ideal for a celebratory dinner; the service was friendly and knowledgeable (and apologetic); and the Virginia wine pairings were surprisingly good. For the price and historic charm of the restaurant, the kitchen needs to do much better.
This was a birthday dinner celebration with a prix fixed menu. We chose the Virginia Piedmont Ribeye, Braised Quail Arancini, Roasted Fig Maitake Tartlet, Spiced Pear Butternut Salad, Cheese plate, and for dessert, Nectarines Cream Cheese Cake. All courses were explained, and we enjoyed every bite. Thank you, Patrick P.
We had a delightful visit to the Inn. Our cottage was immaculate, private and comfortable. Attention to detail was evident in all factors of our visit. Excellent pub, happy hour and service. Loved the history and location!
