The Club Room - Monterey

This restaurant was just okay. There was nothing particularly exciting about it. We visited for brunch on Fathers Day. The lighting in the restaurant was very dim, even in the late morning.

I attended a conference at this hotel and was pleased with the helpfulness of the hostess in arranging a quiet table for our group. The food at the restaurant was excellent, although the wait for a customized omelette was too long for me to enjoy. Thank you.

I have been dining at the restaurants at Portola Plaza Hotel for the past 15 years, enjoying many meals. Jack's has always been my go-to spot for business breakfasts and lunches. However, since the recent renovations, I had not visited the Club Room for breakfast. When my largest client asked to meet on short notice, I suggested meeting for breakfast at The Club Room on Thursday morning. I made a 9 a.m. reservation using Open Table for the next day. Upon arriving a few minutes early, I was informed that the hotel was fully booked for the week and that the Club Room was not open. When I mentioned my reservation from the day before, I was met with skepticism and rudeness. This experience was insulting and embarrassing. It seems like the hotel is not interested in catering to local residents. As a result, I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

Open Table allowed us to book a reservation at the Club Room which is in the Portola Hotel adn Spa, however, on arrival we found it was closed. We ended up eating at the restaurant immediately adjacent with the exact same menu Jack's. The food was terrible. I had the chicken dish and my husband had scallops. We also ordered the cast iron skillet rolls. Honestly, after eating the rolls we should have just paid and left. It was that unappealing. The server was polite. I would definitely not recommend this and would not return.

After reading some of the reviews, I was hesitant about going. My experience was amazing. The food was wonderful and the service was good. Had a travelzoo voucher which made dinner that much more perfect.
