"This place serves a 8 course plant based degustation of brilliant Japanese fusion contemporary food. The menu and food was very thoughtfully made, there's not much to fault, what a pleasure. Highlight dish was the hibachi black oyster mushroom and smoked pine dashi soba noodles made from local buckwheat. Not to mention the strawberry, inca berry and silken tofu ice-cream desert. "Onpoint madarao is all we have been looking for for for a long weekend in nature. both my partner and I are vegan. everything we had to do was that justin and kaori know in advance and they really went beyond and beyond to create a menu for us. each single meal was an amazing experience from different aromas and textures, all plants based and made home. the breakfast was western style, while the Japanese style was dinner. on the last day we had lunch in the lodge and we tried the pulled mushroomburger. this was the hands down the best burgers I ever had, 100 vegan and full of taste. after the long walks and all the cycling during the day, back to a hearty meal prepared with the freshest ingredients is everything they need to charge! I recommend to them in any case for the breakfast dinner package when they choose their stay! the lodge itself is wonderful, with a modern design and a feeling of warmth throughout the room. we were in one of the superior rooms that have a double bed and a private bathroom. the room and lodge in general are super clean and with stylish furniture and finish. Justin knows the opposite exceptionally good, so he can be in the position to go on the spot and do activities while they are there. Justin and kaori are both very attentive and friendly, it was a joy to meet them. we will definitely be back in autumn and winter for more trips to the nature and relaxing time in onpoint madarao! updated by the previous review on 2020 08 23"

"This is such a cute little cafe with lots of antique decorations and amazing sandwiches. Owner knows what vegan is and happily veganizes dishes and sandwiches. I was able to eat a delicious sandwich with soy meat, veggies and vegan mayo. Their apple juice is amazing!!! Updated from previous review on 2021-08-11"

"Traditional Japanese restaurants tend to be full of meat these days. Shibata has a full vegan menu if you ask for it, and will veganise dishes off the main menu (replace dashi with vegetable stock for example). I’ve eaten there 3x so far along with family members who are not vegan. I’ve had daikon radish salad, fried tofu, udon noodle soup with tempura vegetables, other family members have had bean curry with rice (it’s vegan) and there are lots of vegan dishes I haven’t tried yet. Not much English spoken, but the manager understand “vegetarian” and “no meat” and how to alter any menu items to be vegan. Book early as it gets full up each night."
