Highly recommend trying Bub's fish chips when in Nelson Bay. Grilled barramundi and chips with tartare sauce (award winning) is 10/10; whenever I return, I will be back. The best part for coeliac is they are gluten-free friendly (shown in pics). View all feedback.

Kid looking after the counter can do with more customer service training, presentation and mannerisms won't pass with Sydney siders. Best fish and chips in NSW as they claim needs to come with some pleasant service... View all feedback.
Hate to do this, as I always like to support local businesses, but this was the worst fish chip shop I’ve ever eaten at. -grilled fish: size of a child’s fist, zero flavour, basically cooked on its own for $17. -chips: oil must’ve been a month old, taste horrible, kids wouldn’t even eat it. -scallops: drenched in oil, barely any potato, kids also didn’t eat. -octopus: felt tasted like you were eating rubber, zero flavour. -salmon: average size, zero flavour or herbs. -calamari rings: woolies frozen version taste better. -battered fish: soaked in oil, soggy, horrible flavour. After spending close to $200 for 6 adults, we left extremely disappointed felt like we were robbed. We’ve been coming to port Stephens for years always see their billboard on the way up finally decided to try it. I didn’t complain in person as nothing was missing or undercooked, it’s just horrible food, so what’s the point. I don’t understand the 5 star reviews here, it’s not like one item was bad, it was all bad. Hopefully the owner sees this addresses the poor quality food the way the lady manager treats embarrasses the younger workers infront of customers.

I always try to support local business and give good reviews everytime I'm happy about it but this time is probably the first time I give a bad review like this. We came in as a party of 3 ordering the Blue Water platter and the Fishermen basket (serve 1). The price was expensive but it would have been acceptable if the quality were good. Firstly they charged for the sauce separately which to me is kind of a ripped off because charging people for $60 per platter surely have room for at least one included sauce. The quality of the platter was no where to hold up their claim as the best Fish Chip shop in NSW (not sure if voted or won) The prawns were not fresh. The squid and calamari rings were so so. The chips were soggy. Salad wasn't that great. Battered fish was bland. Octopus was overcooked and too tough. I guess the only ok thing is the 4 oysters which required no cooking. This is the sort of thing we can find in the pub not a coastal town and certainly not the best Fish n Chip shop in NSW. I certainly had better seafood mix in an average Joe seafood shop in Sydney (Rhodes) so my expectations were much higher this time. I hope the quality of food can be improved to justify the extravagant price tag (for a casual setting)
Wish I could give 0 stars. Not tasty food at all. Uncooked fish, non tasty chips and we thought we would get a nice shaped fish but we got a weird shaped fish). Total rip off. Not worth it coming forever. Flop.
I liked the fact that there were nice and fresh salad with the plates rather than giving just plain fish and chips. We went during a weekday and there were moderate rush there. They only have limited seats so it’s better to takeaway and eat in your car or sit near to the beach watch out for cheeky seagulls and pelicans) Coming to the food, it was average, i think they used frozen fish instead of fresh ones. it wasn’t very fresh, tasted just plain. And it was around 20$ a plate but it wasn’t worth that money.
