What User doesn't like about La Boite En Bois:
The restaurant called and texted many times to confirm our reservation. We had dined here before, and based upon our past experience we were a little disappointed. The food quality was not as fantastic as before. Everyone has an off night maybe Saturday was one of those nights. View all feedback.
If a 5-star rating had been given, except the tables are unlikely to be close together. Almost bumping elbows with people on both sides of our table and listening talks on both sides.
The **** Mary was bland with no spice and very little, if any ,vodka. The Lobster bisque was quite tasty. Asked for bread and later saw that it was $2.50 added to the tab. Waiter should have said there was a fee. Crabcakes were more breading than crab Disappointing. Since it was a birthday lunch, VERY disappointing.
Delicious, down-to-Earth French food for a reasonable price! Highly recommend before or after a visit to the Metropolitan Opera.
The intimate restaurant is like a restaurant you would find in the Marais area of a Paris. Heading down the semi steep stairs , you feel you are taken back in time. The tables are close, but sometimes it’s nice to converse with your neighbors, but that’s an elective! The menu, has not changed much, but that’s a good thing and there are specials. My dirty Martini is always generous and strong. We split the salad of beets , endive and goat cheese, excellent, not over dressed. My fish stew, shrimp, scallops and fish , in a vibrant soup. The Coq au vin, was full flavored and again generous with 3 thighs. This neighborhood gem remains one of our favorites on the westside. The service was excellent and very attentive.
I moved from NYC area and had not eaten at La Boite in over 10 years. Had late dinner after Lincoln Center crowd had left. Food quality was satisfactory, no one seem to be in charge, service was not coordinated. Really liked my old dining experience here, but would not rush back again.
