What User doesn't like about Modern Bread Bagel:
this place is specialized in gluten-free brot. it is connected to a sister restaurant - found at the same place - named arba, which is a Mediterranean food. there are a few vegan choices, although openly not many-self the bagels use protein (proven to compensate for the lack of gluten in any case, this place is more oriented to pescatarians who want gluten-free food than for the happycow publikum. this place also see... It took a bite before crossing the Central Park to go to the Met and found this place. A modest line and happy to see so many celiac options. I got the B.E.C. from her menu. I have always heard that I had to try Bagels while I was in New York and was glad that was the room I had to experience. No seating, but a sign says we were welcome to be on the outdoor terrace, which is technically part of the restaurant next door. Enjoy my bagel on a cute terrace (although accompanied by deaf hammer from the construction right in front of me, but I think that added to the quintessential NYC experience).
On the photos the place looks very cozy and stylish, the food also looks amazing. As for food, pastrami salmon and cream cheese sandwich was indeed very good. The apple fritter I didn't like so much, but I think it's a personal preference, there was nothing bad about the frit. But as for the atmosphere and the staff, the place is nothing as shown in the photos. First, the inner seat is impossible. Secondly, if you want to place your order, it is not very clear where you need to go, who takes the orders. The places are hectic, the customers are confused, and the staff simply doesn't care. Came here at 10:28 on a Sunday end of October. From there when we got the reception, it was waiting for an hour. We got to Bagel-Lox and spread sandwiches. It came with rugula tomato and picked onion. My friend has everything and I have sesame. I thought everything was better taste. If you prefer a mild tasting bagel, you can choose sesame between the two. For gluten-free bagels, these were some of the most doughiest chewiest I had. The vegan cream cheese was also very good texture, taste and cream. For?dessert? I tried double chocolate zucchini bread, which is also vegan. It was phenomenal. Super chocolate and damp. I would recommend that if you like chocolate baked goods.
I hate to get this strength out, but honestly to one of the biggest bagels I've ever had. And extremely expensive. You don't have lumps, so I have a lump and cream cheese all bagel. The bagel itself is hard and so loaded with the spices it is hard to eat. And the spices were burned to be black, so the bagel was burned. No continuity in bagel sizes. Another Lox Bagel in our order was no exaggeration half the size of mine. What led me to write this review was that the ox I had on this bagel was a laughing crowd. See photo (care for the bites, I realized that I had it for reviewing a few bites in when I realized that I had?t tasted Lox still). This place was rated #2 Bagel in the city. Sad, I have to say passport.
The first time I went to Modern Bread and Bagel I was so excited to have some gluten free bagels. The bagels from the first time were excellent. This time, not so much. I placed an order for pickup about an hour and half before because I figured they were busy and wanted to give them more time to prepare my bagel order. When I arrived I picked up the bag and happened to look in. Initially, I saw two cinnamon raisin bagels were burnt. I gave them back and was told that only one cinnamon raisin bagel was left and that they could offer the replacement. Those two bagels weren't burnt so I went on my way, only to find out when I got home that the rest of the bagels were burnt in the bag too. It is really bad practice for a bagel shop to do this. To receive all burnt bagels shows a real lack of quality control. Very disappointed and I hope Modern Bread and Bagel can do better in the future.
