this is a friendly, well managed pub. we chose it for Sunday dinner. the sign outside says local food, and that followed cooking. it was a good quality, really pleasant and all made home. very good, and excellent worth. I can imagine being here all the time when I lived close. Make sure to leave a lot of time as the service is not super fast. but who cares? View all feedback.

After we visited the local national trust house today (17th februar), we went to dinner at the highly valued hearty goodfellow. can not really comment on how I drove. service was good. when we set ourselves, we were presented with the menu and said there was no steak available. I have never understood why a pub can run out of steak around 18 o'clock, especially if there is a great metzgerladen about 500m away. Why sh... View all feedback.
Visited today for the 2nd time, at the high season. had a great meal at midday, the homemade cakes are both the hull and steak from this world. excellent friendly service, warm and friendly pub. a big British pub, to be proud of.
Called in with two dogs for Sunday lunch …no problem seated in 15 mins and roast beef was top notch …will call in again as daughter at uni campus there
Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary was made all the more special by the Goodfellow’s tasty food and wonderful staff (a shout out for Lauren). 9 months ago we booked Alchemilla in town for this celebration only to be let down the night before! The friendly...team at HG more than made up for the disappointment. We loved the food and celebrated in style.
We thought that we would treat the family to an evening meal here and the food was very good, well presented, tasty and fairly priced, as were the drinks. However, the front of house staff provided a very disappointing standard of service. We waited 35...minutes for our plates to be cleared and then had to ask for the dessert menu. Initially, the team were busy taking selfies, texting or brushing their hair behind the bar. After twenty minutes, I went up to the bar and it was like the Marie Celeste, no sign of life! Another ten minutes, same issue! Eventually, I managed to attract attention before we became fossilized permanent fixtures of this establishment but this was a good meal spoiled. There were only three tables to serve, so goodness knows what it's like when it's busy......
This is the second time I’ve eaten in the Hearty Good Fellow and the friendly staff make you feel so welcome as soon as you walk through the door . Yesterday evening I had the Olive with dips starter which was large enough for a...main , very tasty and well worth the £6.95 . Will be going back for sure when in staying in Southwell.
