During our weekend trip to Newcastle, we decided to have breakfast at this restaurant. Despite a long line outside, we were able to secure a table after 15 minutes. We were informed that there would be a 35 minute wait for food, but when our food had not arrived after 45 minutes, we inquired about the delay. Surprisingly, our food was brought out just one minute later and our server made extra efforts to make up for... View all feedback.
What tamsarian doesn't like about Cafe 1901:
Very busy on a Saturday morning, but got a seat easy enough. Breakfast arrived before the coffee (which I think they forgot about). Good standard breakfast, but the staff are not particularly personable, but certainly not rude….possibly down to how busy they were. Overall, decent breakfast, coffee below average and service a tad lacking. Good, but not great. View all feedback.
My friend and I have lunch here every week. The food is delicious, particularly the 1901 salad and the corn fritters. The cakes and traybakes are the best I have had anywhere (and I visit a lot of cafes! , every week there is something new and a great selection.
I visited on my own with my dog and got seated after lunch no problem. I ordered the breakfast burger again as it was so nice last time and comes with lovely little hash brown bites. Their cake cabinet always looks impressive as well as the cakes and tray bakes being tasty and good portion sizes. There are treats available for dogs. There are also water stations to help yourself too.
Great food and vibe. This place is dog friendly which is lovely. There are SO many cakes to choose from here and they all look delicious. We went for breakfast and I was not disappointed. The bacon roll was incredible; genuinely one of the best I’ve ever had. The staff were friendly although it was not clear that you had to go up and order. The decor is really rustic and industrial which was a nice twist. Recommend coming here
Cafe 1901 is a lovely spot with great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food however doesn't match up to the image. I've eaten here several times and always left dissappointed. Today I thought I’d give it another go. I'm vegan and options are limited so I went for the salad, what could go wrong?. It was absolutely awful. It was tiny, especially for the price but it was also disgusting. Tofu burned with the black bits added in. I have no idea what they were going for but it was a massive fail! The kids like the drinks here so I can't say I'll never go back but I definitely won't be eating there again.
I visited this morning for breakfast with my husband and father-in-law. I had the corn fritters, my husband had the hashbrown breakfast bowl and my father-in-law had scrambled eggs. The plates were all clean other than a couple of slices of toast we couldn’t fit in. The corn fritters were absolutely incredible. I would go back for those tomorrow! Coffee was also good. We also got some cake to take away and they also did not disappoint. 100% intend on going back
