Popped into the Elmpter-Zollhaus as we were in the area with friends, and fancied eating out. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and quite small, giving it a pleasant cosy feel. The staff are extremely polite, and speak English very well, which is handy if you do not speak German. The food we ordered (Chicken Breast, Pork and a couple of Steaks) was very good, nicely presented and tasted excellent. Highly recommended. The only real complaint with the Zollhaus would be the length of time it took to get our food. We were in the restaurant by 1745, with no other guests there at this time, however we still had to wait over 90 minutes to be given our mains. Additionally, the menu seems slightly overpriced, compared to other restaurants in the area. Maybe only 3 or 4 euros a meal, but still slightly expensive.Overall I would recommend the Elmpter-Zollhaus, however there are better restaurants in the area.
Situated between Elmpt and the Dutch border (outside Javelin Barracks) this place offers good food and friendly service. I tend to go for the most expensive option-large T-bone with chips and veg (c. 26 euros). NB meat served off the bone. Schnitzels are another good option (c. 12 euros). The 'wild menu' they have just started includes goose, duck and boar. English menu available/some English spoken. I enjoyed the Dornfelder red wine.
