I 've cycled past this place many times and always meant to come back and have a proper look. This morning, after a lovely walk in the nearby hills, we stopped for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. La Calchere is a wonderful example of how to bring an old industrial building, in this case a circular lime kiln, back to life. Downstairs there are small tables for a glass of wine and 'spuntini ', upstairs a few tables for simple lunches. We had a jug of very good friulano and a platter of cold meat and cheese. It was all excellent, especially the ham and melt-in-the-mouth pancetta. We 'll definitely be back for the frico and to sample their reds. Should be lovely in the summer, as well, with plenty of covered seating outside.
