Silver Mountain Station - NOLALU

Just left the Silver Mountain Station very satisfied. The sleeping giant burger was great especially on the pretzel bun. Wife had Yorkshire's filled with beef and gravy on the side. Reminded her of something her dad used to make. Cook/waiter was very friendly and professional. I will be back.

I like eating in old railroad stations. Went up the back way from Pigeon River border crossing. Server greeted us promptly. Ordered two sandwiches with sides and they were served in due time. We felt they they were quite good and about average price by Canadian standards. Restaurant also has a reasonable (and cheap by US standards) corkage fee for personal wine as we brought an upper label not common in TBay.Avoid eating outside as the region is prime bug country. About 45 minutes from border over a not so good road, 30 minutes west of TBay over a bit better road.

The school bus that transported us had numerous broken windows that couldn't be closed, leading to icy winds hitting us during the journey. The driver even had to ask passengers for directions since they were unfamiliar with the route, causing us to arrive late, cold, and feeling unwell. Upon arrival, it was evident that the venue was not prepared for the number of guests, as they didn't have enough seating arrangements. Despite requesting table preferences in advance, our group was not accommodated together and makeshift arrangements had to be made to fit everyone around tables not meant for such a large group. The murder mystery event began with so many people crammed into the space that it was impossible to hear or follow the storyline. The rushed and chaotic game concluded early, leaving no opportunity for guests to mingle or engage with the characters. The food, mostly from M&M's Meat Shop, was either overcooked or stale, having been left in hot trays throughout the entire event. The timing of the meal service was rushed, with no breaks between courses to allow for further immersion in the mystery theme. The decorations were cheap and tacky, with disposable plates and plastic cups adding to the lackluster atmosphere. The promised complimentary drinks had to be requested rather than freely offered, reflecting a lack of hospitality and attention to detail. Overall, it is recommended to avoid this establishment as it appears the owner is more focused on profit rather than providing a quality dining and entertainment experience. Save your money and seek out a more reputable venue for a memorable night out.

For the $100 per person, the evening was terrible. An hour into the evening, they did not have simple drink ingredients like orange juice for a screw driver or kahlua. This was New Years Eve! The buffet was so lacking (a few hot dishes). We expected a lot more for that price. We were crammed in like sardines. The good thing was we drove out instead of taking the bus provided which allowed us to leave really early. It would have been awful to be stranded there until after midnight.

For dinner, there was an appetizer and dinner buffet, but the options were limited and not good quality. One of my friends, who is a strict vegetarian, had a hard time finding something to eat. The staff initially suggested she could have chicken, until we reminded them she was vegetarian. They eventually provided a dish of couscous and veggies, but the overall quality of the food was disappointing. The dessert buffet was also lacking in choice. Despite our disappointment, we were grateful for the complimentary drinks included in our tickets, although there was some confusion with the bar staff initially charging us. The mystery event felt rushed and we didn't have much time to engage with the activities. Overall, we found the experience to be disorganized and not worth the $100 per ticket. We were very disappointed and would not choose to visit Silver Mountain Station again.
