28 years of going here! Great food, service, and same old cozy atmosphere. Please keep cream soda as a selection! And the secret sauce with the fried cauliflower….
My wife and I had dinner at the Happy Hour Tavern last night. This place has a great up north feel with a cozy laid-back atmosphere. We were greeted with a friendly smile and seated almost immediately. We beat the rush. Our server was also very friendly and very helpful with the description of the menu. The menu is not gluten-free friendly, however there are a couple items that can be made gluten-free. One of them being the smoked pork chop which my wife enjoyed very much. She actually used the word “succulent” when she described it to me. I had the fried walleye fillets and they were also very good. The music was great, the food was great, and the service was great! Do yourself a favor and try this one out. You won’t regret it.
If you order the fresh fish, you won't be disappointed. All the food came out HOT, which we appreciated. No chicken wings or pizza. Great service. Inside is kinda dingy with very little ventilation. Deck looks AMAZING but is only open for lunch. Maybe that changes when it gets more busy???? Overall, our first impression (we almost walked out) was changed with the great service and good/great food. PLEASE open deck for dinner.
On our first trip to the area this was our first restaurant we ate at and it set the bar high! We pulled up to what looked like a residential cabin in the dark but when we walked in we were greeted by I assume a local at the bar who shouted Hello, welcome to us. She was clearly having a good time and we knew we 'd have a great time here. There were a couple of large families eating around us another good sign, so we slipped into a table and the waitress stopped by in no time. We all tried a different item on the menu and everything was great but I still think about the spinach salad! The place is a cozy cabin, and while we were up there doing a snow storm I think the place has a magic about it for all seasons. The service was quick, everyone was very nice, the food was delicious and we will be back!
Great little spot with friendly staff and quality food. I had the walleye special dinner with sweet potato fries and green beans, all delicious! Inside the restaurant was a little hot for me, but it was mostly old folks in there, so they need it warm.
Old school supper club sort of place. If you'd like a fish fry and some beers, here's your place. Food was pretty good, straightforward and honest. Beer selection was pretty good.
