This is a very old place in Chinatown Oakland. I had read that they served up some tasty roast duck so we drove 78 miles to give it a try. I ate a lot of really excellent roast duck in Oakland back in the day but now gentrification has deleted some of my favorite old haunts. This little hole in the wall was one I never tried before. Unfortunately they served less than mediocre duck The BBQ Pork won ton soup was quite... View all feedback.
What 354irenee doesn't like about Gum Wah:
Will return. A very topical Cantonese eatery where old gentlemen bring their birds and chitchat and eat. But I did see a mom with her 6 years old and an older diva in trendy yoga leggings. Free Chinese newspapers are on the tables. I’m lucky to have found a parking spot on the street four cars away from this restaurant. Amazing meal ! We ordered the Thai mussels mussels are THE thing to order here, they come in 4 different sauce options, only $16 per plate and each order has enough mussels for a whole meal. We shared an order and were full with just that :
They have the best roast duck and bbq pork here. Food is cheap and always in big portions. Their wontons are always freshly made almost everyday and never frozen with a juicy shrimp in every wonton : This is definitely one of my top 2 favorite restaurants in chinatown.
My Go-to spot for Wonton Soup in Oakland's Chinatown.
Love their roast duck, sweet and sour pork, curry octopus, and noodle dishes
They have great rice porridge offered at a very cheap price. I usually am very satisfied with just one bowl of their porridge. I would recommend the pork liver which is chewy and seasoned. Their rice noodles are also very good; a great comfort food choice!
