On 3rd June a Thursday holiday, We went to Restaurant Ze Varunca for lunch. Firstly, we went to Bairro Alto but it was closed. So I called for the other Varunca restaurant in Oeiras and an employee very kind gave us the indications to get there. It's a small space but extremely cozy with a typical decor. The starters served were explained to us in detail and a typical Alentejo dish was suggested Alentejo pork meat with a fresh and red wine sangria. Everything was delicious! At the end, one more suggestions kindly given by the employee one Zericaia with fruit. We didn't go out without a typical remembrance. ; In brief, it is the most typical Portuguese restaurant with the best attendance/service. To recommend certainly!
It took me 3 or 4 attempts to get a table at this restaurant, since it is so popular. What I remember it that there was some pressure to consume (many small dishes) and that nothing was particularly good.. the service seemed dependent on the expected bill.
We visited for lunch and were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The place was packed, and when we left there were several parties waiting to be seated. Before we ordered, there was a huge array of appetizers set out, and the server described each one. We contented ourselves with a couple of spreads and cheeses and the excellent bread. Our entrees were also excellent. The restaurant is small with a friendly, cozy atmosphere. The service is attentive. Recommended.
