"What a delightful experience! Planning on a simple evening’s dinner after a day of hiking, I was encouraged by the publican upstairs to try this more upscale venue. He was right, everything was spot on. I went ala carte as the set menu offered was a larger meal than I wanted. The seared scallops with a poached apple and black pudding was a novel pairing that really worked tastes melded perfectly and the visual appeal was first rate. For my main course, I went with a chicken breast, but no simple chicken breast was this flavorful meat, excellent preparation, and again the visual appeal was noteworthy. A local IPA complemented both my starter and main course. Service was friendly but not intrusive. The decor is understated, classy, and is appropriate for the lower levels of an older building. Clientele represented all ages."

"Great wee pub! Private snugs (little sitting rooms for my Canuck friends) from days gone by. Hard to find these old pubs. We didn't have food, so I couldn't rate that, but I'm sure it's wonderful. Paula forgot her handbag in the snug, and didn't realize until we walked for an hour. We made it back, and they had it, safe and sound, fully intact. Small town people with integrity! Thanks, folks! Service: 5"
