While some customers found the atmosphere unwelcoming and the service slow, others were impressed by the delicious food and friendly staff. The restaurant, owned and operated by Devakripa, has been a staple in the Ottawa vegetarian scene since 1992. The menu offers a variety of options including special samosas, dal, and vegan desserts. The cozy ambiance and peaceful vibe make it a hidden oases in the bustling city. Despite some mixed reviews, many visitors highly recommend giving the Peace Garden Restaurant a try for its homemade and fresh vegetarian dishes.
Very peaceful place in time square plaza with some amazing vegetarian and vegan foods. it is led by women who seem to be the pendants of the Chinmaya mission.Food: we went for the daal (lentilsuppe), Mexican lasagna and a sweet potato burger. daal was actually a side to the burger. that said it was absolutely delicious very secret and loved every piece of it. the sweet potato burger was great and also the patty was amazing, the tomato slide was great (although, could have been a little thinner) and the sprouts made the whole burger extremely healthy. the Mexican lasagna was a good taste, and the sweet sprouts ran well with it. before departure we went for honey carob drink and a cafe au lait. during the honey carob was quite good, cafe au lait was terrible largely because it was too watery and quite a lot bland. for coffee, this is not the place Ambiance: very live up to its name, the place is very peaceful. there were many paintings, antiques and books inside. it does not have a large seating area, but a very clean and clean building. Staff: the damen who operate the site were really nice and friendly. while the steaming hot suppers were already finished with self-service, the rest of the meal did not take much time to come. a great place to be nothing high profile, but a very humble setting and a great healthy food. to be in the market of byward, it is also very close to all important sights parlament, national gallery, Notre-Dame cathedral basilica etc. to be visited in any case.
The friedensgarten truly lives up to its name to be a nice, relaxing place to have lunch with her. the suppers are divine. who could give up one of their early rolls and a suppe on a cold winter day?
The food from the Peace garden is fresh and delicious. My daughter is a vegan and really enjoyed the sweet potato burger. Salads were fresh and full of variety. Would recommend.
I visited the Peace GArden Café, in the heart of Ottawa's Byward Market and was quite impressed with both food and service. 1- Very special samosas! 2- Very tasty dahl 3- Vegan dates square : very generous portion; homey taste 4- Home made yogourt every day 5- Owned and operated by the same Devakripa, so probably the first female-owned vegetarian in Ottawa (since 1992)
The place serves eggs for breakfast. Apart from that, the place is fully vegetarian. Loved that. Some interesting dishes on the menu like sweet potato burger. They only serve brown rice for meals. Big thumbs up for that. Would love to visit this place again.
