"We stopped at Nostalgie when visiting Oudtshoorn on the way to Knysna. It came highly recommended for dinner by our hotel, so we thought we’d give it a visit. We were glad that we made a reservation, as they were fully booked the evening we visited. We arrived at the restaurant and we were seated and given the menus. The restaurant is quaint and charming, and although not my usual cup of tea, we embraced the authenticity of it and it’s surroundings. Xavier was our waiter, and he was nothing short of delightful. He was efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Oudtshoorn is famous for its Ostrich farming, so we were intrigued to try it at Nostalgie. We started with the Chicken Livers, which were really delicious and flavoursome. We both went for the Ostrich Steak, which was very tasty. I would say it’s similar to a very lean Fillet Steak, but with a deeper flavour. The dish came with a selection of side dishes and some excellent sauces too. It was very rich so we didn’t have room for desert, but they also sounded very good. Overall, we had a great time at Nostalgie, and it was incredibly good value. There were lots of tourists as well as locals, and it’s a clear sign that Nostalgie does what it does very well. If visiting Oudtshoorn, you’ve certainly got to stop for lunch or dinner at Nostalgie."

"Beautiful farm just outside of Oudtshoorn, basically at the base of the infamous Swartberg Mountain, with lots to do (fishing, ostriches, interacting with the rabbits, and walks around the facility). They have a lovely restaurant next to the river, and they are situated very close to the Cango Caves, Swartberg Mountain, Buffelsdrift Nature Reserve and Ostrich Farm."

"We landed in Karoopot after the first two restaurants we walked into in Oudtshoorn weren’t what we were looking for. This one, however, was pitch perfect. The atmosphere was comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We were there in July, and it was too chilly to be out, but we enjoyed the interior. We could get both South African wine and beer on tap at good prices. We’d just finished the tour at Safari Ostrich Farm (recommended! , and since we’d never had ostrich, we got the braised ostrich fillet, remarkably similar to a good beef steak, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The meal came with onion rings, mashed potatoes, pumpkin and creamed spinach, and we topped it off with malva pudding. All in all, this restaurant struck all the right notes when we were getting a tab pecking and cranky. If we lived in Oudtshoorn, Karoopot would be in our regular restaurant meal rotation."
