"A very pleasant little taste of France in the North East of England. Immaculately kept, great use of space at ground floor and first floor levels of this arch. Seating arranged nicely, but not crammed in. Cheese and charcuterie boards consumed. Generous content for the price. Personally felt they padded the cheese board with too much Comte, but general quality levels were suitably high. Sausison with wild boar was a delight. Even the little details like a brilliant tang to the cornichons speaks to the quality of the place. Wine flights and specials both provided excellent value to try new and interesting things. The unique selling point is the sheer Frenchness of the place, with a vast amount of options for the wine and very knowledgeable, friendly staff, it's a winner if you like cheese and wine for sure. "The first time for me and my friend. although it was busy (not a fan of busy was the place neat, the atmosphere was lavish, the staff was super friendly and above all the food was to die! we order the Taco tablet logger, with halloumi fries. we also tried 'the omen' from the cocktail menu, which is very recommended served by the waitress. once again absolutely beautiful! only the whole experience. Couldn't owe it a bit. great job boy. I'll pay another visit."

"Booked a table, just as well it was heaving. We weren't aware that there was an over 60's menu. 3 course for £10.95. Terrific value and food was good. Pity about the noise, there was a group of about 60 sitting just behind us,they had a great time but a bit overpowering for us, however, we still enjoyed our visit and would call again. Forgot to mention the waitress who served us certainly knows her job, considering the amount of people, she did well."

"Slightly late opening but well worth the few minutes wait. Colourful, casual style restaurant. Super attentive, friendly staff, great atmosphere, great music. 5 different meals, all thoroughly enjoyed even tried a Peruvian cocktail. If you fancy a change from your usual food choices it’s definitely worth a visit."

"Cafe man is a local cafe at the end of a series of rows of row houses in a very industrial area. from outside it is the last place they would expect to find a series of vegan options. a good rich view also photo for menu jan 2022. the personal really knew everything about the requirements in which measured how they told me that I could not have a roll because they had milk, but the cut brot was milk free. I had a Vacon sandwich, with chips and a big house made klappjack, which was nice. the other half had a linda mc fish cake. they even had vegan mayo and salat cream! there is a separate friier for the vegan causes and they take gluten-free seriously also they even have a separate toaster. impressive effort and know. many larger, more expensive places could learn a lot from the staff in the cafe one. so friendly. parking is located on a residential street right in front of the house. There are not many vegan options here, so this was a very welcome fund. updated by previous rating on 2022 01 28"

"I ordered ‘The Colmans feast’ which was lovely! It is the best fish and chips I have ever tasted! Maria suggested the homemade tarta sauce which went very well with the fish! Would recommend anybody visiting Shield’s to stop in here. The service was as good as the standard of the food first class!"

"I absolutely love having this restaurant on our doorstep. Never had a bad meal. Excellent set menus plenty of choice on the main menu. The pizzas are to die for, no grease what’s ever, freshly made full of flavour"
