"Michelin Stars are prodigiously difficult to obtain but also to lose so that sometimes you might be paying serious money for a meal that can be disappointing and I mean big-time- probably because the owners or the chef de cuisine have taken...their eyes off the ball. There are three Michelin starred restaurants in the whole department' of la Manche . I will leave you to judge the other two. We revisited La Marine on August. The ambiance, was perfect especially on a summer day.. The view from the dining- room is idyllic. The estuary with both the local fishermen arriving quite close, almost under La Marine's windows. , but also the rich cats from the Channel Islands easing their way towards the marina with possibly lunch or dinner at La Marine on the cards. I won't go through the menu. .If you are super tubby, and there are are a lot around, in Britain but sadly now in France, you might find the plates not stacked as high as you would wish. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a dining experience out of the ordinary which would cost at least twice as much in the UK without the view, you won't be disappointed. Enough to say that the Cesne family years of ownership set a high standard there was a lapse when they left. Now Damien Groguet has established himself as a worthy recipient of the Michelin Star. , Many thanks too to the new' owner of la Marine who , surprisingly comes from Strasbourg but who has had the courage and deep pockets, in these difficult times,, to insist on excellence above all. Now it has to be said that if you follow the TripAdvisor reports in French, which you probably don't, you will have seen some derogatory accounts of the level of service..IThese may well be justified the French can be very demanding and set the bar higher than the British. On our visit,, however, we had no complaints. Finally a French friend of ours, a retired judge who is VERY careful with his money, thought, that La Marine, despite being twice what he would usually pay for a meal, was good value for money in terms of ambiance.and quality. Try it!"
