"If you want to experience the best meal of your life, go to Essie 's, order one of their delicious cocktails (any will do), order grits croquettes (1 serving per 1-2 people), the earth-shatteringly delicious pork loin over a melange of grilled corn, broad beans, red peppers, and bacon, and end the evening with the stunning 'melon berries, ' which consists of amazingly light fruit sorbets, watermelon, ground cherries (the yellow midwestern fruit, not chopped up sweet cherries), mint, and candied grapefruit zest (plus superfluous but delicious sugar cookie bits). The chef has an extraordinary way with layered flavors and you will not be disappointed. But hurry! The menu changes seasonally. If you don 't like your food to touch/mix and you 're not a fan of trying new things, don 't go here. Everyone else? Call to make sure they have tables open (the place is small but not at all cramped) and get there in a hurry. Everything on the menu is excellent, but that pork loin dish was DIVINE. I can 't stop thinking about it."

"The portion of food you get is really nice for the price you pay for. The food also tastes very delicious and flavorful! The only down or negative I can say is it's kinda annoying you have to pay to get chips and salsa and it just doesn't come with you meal"

"No flavor in the tacos. The portion is good. The aguas frescas are tasty. They don’t let you choose from different tacos flavors which is odd. I’ve never been to a Mexican restaurant before where my three tacos have to be of the same kind. $12 for three tacos is how much I pay for in the city so in Poughkeepsie it seems expensive. The outdoor patio is cute. Service was good too."

"My man and I went to our first date after many years. we have four children and we finally have one night out. this place was perfect. paula welcomes them when they walk in the restaurant. we felt like in her house. there was live music. our food was delicious. the service was perfect. super friendly staff. we will make this our regular date night."

"They marked up their prices, did not mention it, and the price they charged did not even match the menu price. The receipt just shows the total charge plus the service fee (tax I assume) but how they jumped from the price on the menu to the cost minus the tax is nowhere to be found."
