It’s like walking into your friends living room. You’re always welcome and greeted with a smile. Great prices on drinks and food. Live bands every day. If you’re looking to get away from the tourist traps on or near the malecón I’d suggest popping by.
We ordered grilled cheese and fries and soft drinks. They took ages to arrive but the fries were obviously home made and were lovely. Don't go here if you are pushed for time!
I was actually heading to another restaurant for dinner when I noticed the patio diners having a steak dinner. I stopped dead in my tracks and the owner, Claudette, a fellow Canadian, asked if I wanted something to eat. I said: I want steak!!! I sat at the counter at the open window and watched PV go by, a friendly cat on the chair nearby and a delightful dog waiting for me to drop a piece of steak which I did for him. It had to be over 16 ounces and was perfectly (med rare) cooked. It came with a very large baked potato with butter and sour cream and a dressed mixed salad. In my day, I could have put it all away, but I ended up taking half of it home with me. Service was friendly and prompt. I was advised that steaks are the Saturday special, and they run out frequently. You can reserve online or arrive early. Definitely a Saturday destination. Brining friends next time.
We 've been here several times this trip, always for lunch, once for Happy Hour to hear a band. It has about 4 small tables out on the sidewalk and bar seating and tables inside. It 's in an old building so if you 're looking for fancy this isn 't it. Instead it 's lively with conversation and has a welcoming staff. So far we 've tried the chili dog with hand-cut fries, very good, the wings, great, the hamburger with cheese and bacon (also with a good portion of fries). The hamburger is my favorite when I need a break from Mexican food. The French Onion soup isn 't the type that comes in a crock bowl. It 's in a wide soup bowl and topped with bread and cheese. It didn 't seem broiled on top, but had a good flavor. The chicken fajitas were very good but needed pico--probably should have asked. How could we visit a place so often? Well, we 're here 6 weeks, the prices are great and the staff is attentive. Shout out to Yolanda, she 's a great , amiable server!
