After spending two weeks in Ecuador eating simple vegetarian meals of rice and pasta, I was pleasantly surprised to discover elevated vegan options at a fine dining restaurant in Quito. Chef Juan was quick to accommodate my request for a vegan version of their 8-course tasting menu, providing great explanations of the ingredients, sourcing, and local foods. I was delighted by the attention to detail, including checking on the use of bee pollen in one of the dishes. The staff were courteous and I highly recommend this restaurant, whether you are vegan or not. I wish I could give it a higher rating than 4/5 stars on HappyCow.
After spending two weeks in Ecuador eating simple vegetarian dishes like rice and pasta, I was surprised to find vegan options available. I reached out to several upscale restaurants in Quito to see if they could accommodate my vegan diet. Chef Juan at Eveno promptly responded to my email and was happy to create a vegan version of their 8-course tasting menu for me. The dinner was top-notch, with detailed explanations of ingredients, agricultural sourcing, and local produce. I was impressed by their attention to detail and hospitality. Chef Juan even checked with me about bee pollen in one of the dishes to ensure it met my dietary restrictions. I highly recommend this restaurant, whether you are vegan or not. (I would have rated this restaurant 5/5 stars if possible, but HappyCow only allows up to 4/5 stars for non-vegan establishments.)
After spending two weeks in Ecuador and being limited to plain veg on rice/pasta and typical vegan options for tourists, I was pleasantly surprised to discover upscale vegan food in the country. I reached out to several fine dining establishments in Quito to see if they could accommodate my dietary restrictions, and Chef Juan responded quickly and was eager to create a vegan version of their 8-course tasting menu for me. The dinner was outstanding, with detailed explanations of the ingredients, emphasis on farm-to-table sourcing, and use of local foods. I am thrilled to have found this gem and highly recommend it to both vegans and non-vegans alike. Despite encountering challenges with dietary restrictions in my travels, Juan at Quitu went above and beyond by proactively inquiring about any potential allergens in the dishes. Their attention to detail and willingness to accommodate dietary needs was truly appreciated. (Please note that HappyCow only allows ratings up to 4/5 stars for non-vegan restaurants, otherwise I would have given this establishment a 5/5 rating.)
