A pity that the Restarant is only open for a limited period. We were lucky to be there on a day it was open and 'Tom', the Chef produced a magnificent meal. Quite extraordinary utilising mainly local produce provided a meal of exquisite taste sensation.Wines were mainly local and also quite complemented the food. View all feedback.
What Alysha Torp doesn't like about Gather Food and Wine:
My wife and I both had the lobster for entree and the gar fish and duck each for mains. Even without considering the menu pricing, we both found each meal uninteresting and bland. The only highlight was the side of broccoli. The ambience was nice but the meals very disappointing and the service below par. View all feedback.
Checking out wineries in the Coonawarra and Limestone coast - and the odd restaurant. Gathers is in an historic building but has a fresh and interesting menu so I felt we were lucky to visit before it closes for the off-season. I have a weakness for degustations and this was one of the best. Interesting and varied, from the amuse boche of pumpkin seed cracker with curd and seaweed cracker with aoli and iceplant to the dessert which looked like a mini-degustation in itself. Perfect service from a knowledgeable and attentive waitress who didn't rush us which was just as well looking at the amount of food there. We opted for the matched wines and although initially a little disappointed that half weren't absolutely local we would have to admit they were well chosen - and like the menu, just a little bit funky. It was also a pleasure to note the meal was well-balanced; probably too much but one can never complain of generosity. Some degustations present their signature or flavour-of the moment without considering whether the dishes complement each other. Price was ridiculously low "did you forget to charge for the wine? " I asked quite seriously.......
'Gather' had been on our bucket list, & did not disappoint. We decided on the 6-course 'degustation' with matched wines, leaving it to the chef to choose our dishes. Service was delightful, the young waitress (sorry - can't recall her name) beaming, attentive, interested and sharing with us stories of both the food and the wine. The courses and wine were well chosen, though (and I know this is a strange criticism) the chef was a bit too generous - my companion had to pass on dessert (I rose to the occasion). It was the week after school holidays & the crowds had left Robe - it was quiet in town. The restaurant was only about a third full, and halfway through our meal we were the only ones left. We were conscious that we were keeping them from going home... but they made us feel so welcome, stay as long as you like! In fact, at the end, when they could finally have turfed us out, instead the chef came out to say hello and have a chat. We left, replete, well-satisfied and very happy.
Went here for dinner while in Robe. Had two entrees, two mains, two side dishes and shared a desert. Everything was well presented and tasted great. Highly recommended.
Take the opportunity to experience the ambience, subtle and tasty food and good service! Thank for an enjoyable dinner.
Nice Bar/pub near the Harbour. They have a good variety of local beers.
