This place is so unique and gives the real feeling of being transported to a local British pub. Many of the employees are British and even the pub furniture/bar... View all feedback.
What Jeff doesn't like about The Old Toad:
To my knowledge the only place in Rochester to get a scotch egg, and the only place that does actual shepherds pie with lamb (when made with beef it's cottage pie). The beer selection is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the staff are always friendly and awesome! The only thing I wish is that the portions were a bit more generous. View all feedback.
Always great and interesting beers including a few pulled pints. Food is ENGLISH not Irish pub food which is a nice change from the usual. Parking can be a challenge at times but worth the hassle.
A satisfying and scrumptious meal. Very filling British cuisine with some German Oktiberfest mixed in. Burger was delectable. Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice place for a meal out or a pint at the pub.
Always a good relaxing experience. Last few times I've gone they haven't had their cask ales on which is one of my favorite parts. They always have a fantastic whiskey selection though, and the scotch eggs are bangin.
I have been here numerous times before but not since Covid. We went on a Friday evening for dinner and were shocked to see only a handful of customers at prime dinner time 7pm. We were greeted by the bar tender and someone came out in a minute or so to seat us. The menu is online only, we found out, but we had our phones so that was no problem. But, our internet search did not take us to the correct menu right away. Our server had to help us locate the current menu. This was a big deal since the current menu is very limited with only a handful of items. So since it was Friday we opted for the fish fry with mushy peas. Yum! We got the large for $18 which wasn't very large at all. When I get a fish fry other places, I can never finish it and save half for next day. Not the case this time. It was okay tasting but nothing special or striking. I will add that the amount of chips (French fries) was also incredibly small. Disappointing that we paid a good price for a small and sad meal. I don't know if Covid is to blame for this or not but I will think twice before coming again.
Haven't been here in years. Came for some fish and chips and boy what a let down. Got like 5 fries and like half a fish. My drink was warm. I know that the Brits have their drinks at room temp but damn I didn't think they would be that authentic. The place is quaint and charming but the food and drink, on this visit, left a lot to be desired.
