What Ye H doesn't like about Otoro Midtown:
Run!!! The food was terrible. The geso was burnt and chewy. Only one piece of sushi per order. I have never heard of that. Everywhere else they come as two pieces per order. One piece of uni was $14.62. Six single pieces of sushi were $57.11. The takeout was packed horribly and all of the sushi pieces had fallen to one side of the container. View all feedback.
I was outside in the heat but at 8PM the weather is bearable enough. The staff was attentive even though I was their only patron outside eating. The staff knew the menu well enough to clarify things.I had the spicy edammame, the orange blossom roll. I asked for something flavorful and fresh. This roll was really good, it came with light sauces as I asked.I also ordered the fresh roll to go and that came packed and ready to go towards me completing my 1st roll.Nice place, I'll for sure return.
To start off, the food was good. But this is one of the worst customer experiences that I 've had at a restaurant in a long time. I purchased the $80 restaurant gift cards that Costco sells. Spend $80, get $100 for select restaurants. Otoro was one of those select restaurants.I 've been wanting to try Otoros for a while. I brought my father, who was in town for the day to try this place with me and my girlfriend. As we were getting ready to pay, I gave them the two $50 cards as payment, only for the waitress to come back and explain to me that they don 't take that form of payment. I go to the website that clearly states that their business does, and she tries contacting her manager (that wasn 't at the restaurant) about the issue. She comes back only to tell me that they can 't take the cards and I have to pay for the $100+ meal.So I pay, and asked when the manager will be in. I was told tomorrow evening. Fast forward to today, I go in with the two gift cards, receipt, and the debit card that I paid for the meal with. They already knew of my issue and the manager told the associate that they do take that form of tender (the gift cards). Despite this, the manager tells me that they cannot refund the money back to my card and use the gift cards as payment because the credit card company will charge me $25 to refund my payment to your card. I politely replied with, Not to sound like a jerk, but that 's not my problem. Because their staff isn 't properly trained, I was out $100 and they were unwilling to correct a problem THEY MADE.Instead, their solution was to give me $20 dollars cash. This solves very little as they have lost a customer and essentially stole $80 dollars from me. Not to mention, they 're willing to give me $20 dollars cash, but not pay the $25 dollars to refund my card and use the $100 gift cards...Now, money isn 't the issue. It 's that they are clearly unflinching with making the customer happy. I will not go here ever again and will deter any friends that consider this place to eat. This is BS.
Lovely place that opens until late if you wanted to grab some late night sushi ? ? ? ?Food: 4/5
My favorite Japanese spot in the downtown area they have gone through several different owners I believe but the food and service has always been solid.Great selection of Japanese plates and sushi.4.2 stars for me on this one!
The lychee martinis were on point. Rolls were fresh and big. Oysters were super small though. Really small. Other than that, everything was great. Would definitely come back again.Food: 5/5
