"We recently stayed for two nights at the Hotel de France in La Chartre sur le Loir. It was a valentines treat. The room was beautiful with rose petals and other lovely touches. There was a special valentine menu which was well thought out with plenty of choice. However lunch was a disappointment my friend had badly cooked pork and an evening meal in the bistro was a rubbery omelette and what looked like boil in the bag fish , however , the chips were outstanding as was the salad. The fish , for the valentines dinner was full of bones , however the fish on the à la carte a dinner prior to the valentines dinner) was outstanding I had steamed cod and my friend turbot quite brilliant. We felt that the cheese trolly had shrunk and lacked more if the local cheeses but it was still excellent. Deserts weren’t great ... I feel also that the wine list especially for the white wines just lacked a wider choice ...however the Gigou wines shine out . Breakfast lacked variety but it was ample . The staff were friendly and helpful I just felt that with a few extra touches it would touch excellent."
