"If they are ever around covilha on the basis of the serra da estrela in portugal and they should be because it is a wonderful, untouched place this land restaurant, located in the hamlet of canhoso, is perfect for a large family excursion. we. are a couple of weeks ago with the family there. the place is not pretty, a large, strip-lit skies, but eating is excellent for the category. they are specialized in grills and the local delicacies of fried children, kabrito and sucking pig as well as other sturdy mountain dishes. most of my party had the young who was excellent. I chose picanha, a version of a Brazilian dish with stripes of steak and bor. I enjoyed it very much, but could not end the massive part we cleaned later. the accompanying local house wine was smooth and drinkable and service efficient and friendly, especially so that it treats a large and loud family group with each at once in two languages. this place is rarely visited by tourist. when we went, it was full of local families and expats who returned to other Europeans for the summer break. the building is large, has a terrace and an outside area, with a lot of parking. the part is that there are a few miles outside of covilha, so someone has to leave alcohol to drive or get a taxi. a great experience."

"This restaurant delivered both the highest quality and best price value meal of our whole trip. Throw in a unique and elegant setting in a former convent, and great service, and what’s not to like? Without this wonderful experience, our stay at the hotel in which the restaurant is located would have been a complete disaster (see our separate review of the Hospederia Conventual de Alcantara . As we say in that review, too bad the restaurant isn’t running the hotel. They offer three different prixe fixe meals. There is also an a la carte menu but frankly, choosing one of the prixe fixe options instead is a no brainer. That night the options were 15, 25 and 37 Euro. We chose the middle one. The theme was the fresh local cherries that had just started ripening. We started with a unique and delicious aperitif, a gin based martini with a sort of cream based smoothie with lemon and finely diced marinated fresh cherries. It was to die for. The next course was a locally cured smoked ham in a cream and sherry sauce in puff pastry along with a dash of spicy cherry sauce on the side of the dish. This was followed by an Asian influenced sort of spring roll with vegetables and freshly grilled langostine and an Asian influenced cherry sauce. The spring rolls were dleiciously light and crispy. The next course was three small but wonderfully flavorful mushrooms (wild? elegantly topped with langostine shrimp. The main course was roast pheasant with three caramelized onions, vegetables, and of course! another, but different, cherry sauce. The finish was a unique and delicious dessert somewhat like a Napoleon, topped with Maraschino cherries. Bottled water, as much of the very good house red as one wanted, and coffee were included (although it was too late in the evening for us to have the coffee , as was tax and service. The dining room is very elegant with fine white damask table cloths and personalised plates. The staff were pleasant and professional. Highly recommended. As an aside, the restaurant is also responsible for the breakfast and this was also excellent"
